Today we’d like to introduce you to Susi O’Connor.
Hi Susi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, let’s just say residential and commercial real estate wasn’t my first career. While raising two daughters as a single mom, I switched careers at 40 and dove headfirst into a world where I had to learn fast. Looking back, it was one of the best leaps I ever took. I’ve always loved people and being involved in my community, so helping others buy or sell one of the biggest purchases of their lives felt natural; almost like matchmaking, but with houses. Over time, I went from the new “kid” figuring out contracts to opening a brokerage, leading a top-performing team, and collaborating with builder-developers and clients on incredible projects. I’ve also been fortunate to use my voice to help shape the communities I love. The road has been full of twists, turns, and more than a few “you can’t make this up” moments, but each one has shaped me into the broker, leader, and storyteller I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? Not exactly. It has been more like a winding trail with a few unexpected detours, and plenty of potholes, and the occasional “are we sure this is the right way” moment. Starting a brand new career at 40 was intimidating, especially while raising kids and figuring out how to build a business from scratch. There were times when deals fell apart, clients changed their minds, or the market shifted overnight. I have had days where I wondered if I should just throw in the towel, but those challenges taught me how to get creative, stay resilient, and laugh at the chaos. Every bump along the way became part of the story, and in hindsight, those rough patches are what gave me the grit and perspective I needed to get to where I am today.
As you know, we’re big fans of Engel & Völkers Atlanta-AtHome Team. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business partner, Noelle Larson, and I founded AtHome & Co., which led us to join forces and now lead The AtHome Team at Engel & Völkers Atlanta. And while yes, we sell houses, that’s only part of the story. We also help clients sell land and unique properties like wineries. What we really do is guide people through one of the biggest chapters of their lives. We specialize in marketing properties in ways that make them stand out, and we’re known for making the process feel less overwhelming and far more personal. Our clients trust us because we combine deep industry expertise with a genuine, human approach. We don’t just put a sign in the yard and hope for the best; we bring global reach, high-quality marketing, and local insight that helps our clients win.
What sets us apart is that we treat every property and every client as one of a kind because they are. I’m most proud that our brand has become synonymous with trust, creativity, and results. Readers should know we’re not just about transactions; we’re about building relationships that last long after the closing table. Whether it’s selling a house, acres of land, or even a winery; or helping someone find their dream place, we want to be the first people they think of.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
First, be ready to work harder than you ever thought possible, but also know it is worth every bit of effort. I wish I had known just how much relationships matter. The deals, the listings, the sales, they are important, but it is the people you connect with that truly make the difference. Do not be afraid to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn out loud. Surround yourself with people who push you, challenge you, and hold you accountable. And maybe most importantly, do not take yourself too seriously. Real estate is a business, but it is also about helping people live their lives, build their dreams, and create memories. Keep your heart in the work, have fun with it, and remember that every small win builds the foundation for the big ones.
Pricing:
- Homes in our area vary widely depending on size, location, and condition, but we help sellers position their properties to attract serious buyers and get top value.
- Land values depend heavily on zoning, access, and potential for development. Knowing the market and having the right strategy makes all the difference.
- We focus on creating marketing and sales strategies that reflect the true value of the property and connect with the right buyers
