Hidden Gems: Meet Joey Crocker of Cheesecake Daddy’s

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Crocker.

Hi Joey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was little, I used to stay with my Grandmother. She was the baker of our whole family, and I realized back then—even if I couldn’t put it into words—that her love language was making sure her family had a full belly.

I saw how she just spoke through all those delicious things she’d create, and I always felt this wonderful sense of warmth and security whenever I was around her. Watching her face light up when she’d share her food, that pure joy she got from giving and sharing with the folks she loved, that always stuck with me. She’d always let me help out, too, and that gave me a real appreciation for seeing the love you can put into something, even if it’s just a simple dessert.

Now, you wanna know the real, honest-to-goodness truth of how Cheesecake Daddy’s got started? It began with a bet.

I was over at my wife’s Nanny’s house one day, and I tried her cousin’s cheesecake. Right then and there, I thought to myself, “I could do something different and more unique than this.” (Sorry, Sheryl, if you’re reading this!)

Well, she didn’t take kindly to that and challenged me not to let my mouth write a check my ass couldn’t cash.

So I got busy experimenting! I let all my family and friends try my cheesecakes, and folks started regularly telling me they’d actually pay money for them. That right there gave me the courage I needed to start putting my work out into the world. I’m glad I got that feedback, because if anyone had seen my very first attempt… let’s just say if it had been in a beauty contest, all you could do was say, “Bless its heart.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, goodness, there’s definitely a push and pull to it. Some days you feel like things are going incredible, and you’re just riding high. And then other days, you’re just about wondering if you’re fixing to “yee your last haw”!

There are definitely moments when you wonder if your cakes are good enough, or if you’re doing things right. And then there are those times you just have to sit down, look at the books, and really question how you’re going to turn all this passion into something that can actually pay the bills.

You just learn real fast that there are seasons to any business, especially when you’re small and local. There’s the pure joy of sharing your gifts with folks, and then there’s the cold reality of what it actually takes to share those gifts. And that’s not always easy.

But the honest truth is, I wouldn’t have made it this far without a whole lot of help and encouragement from the folks surrounding me. My friends and family are the ones who keep me going, plain and simple.

As you know, we’re big fans of Cheesecake Daddy’s . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
When you get right down to it, Cheesecake Daddy’s is about cheesecakes, of course, but what we really specialize in is people and connection. I reckon I specialize in folks more than I do flour and sugar.

We’re known for two main things: putting a special, sometimes wacky little twist on your grandma’s favorites, and just flat-out getting in the kitchen and cooking with our customers.

I always say: “If you can think it, I can make it.” And I mean it!

I don’t just take an order and send you on your way. We get one-on-one and dream up the perfect dessert together. It’s my favorite part—getting to be a mad scientist with a whisk, pulling your ideas into a cheesecake that’s truly one-of-a-kind. We’ve made everything from your standard strawberry to things like our best-seller, the Hot Honey Goat Cheese and Fig Jam! It sounds a little crazy, but it’s delicious—a good, savory-sweet risk that paid off. I want y’all to feel like you’re as much a part of my business as you let me be a part of y’alls most special days.

I just love my community, and I believe we all do better when we help each other out. That’s why I’ve made exclusive deals with some of our other great local spots. You can only get certain secret flavors at Holy Grounds over in Cartersville, and we take care of the sweet treats at the beautiful In The Woods Wedding Venue in Rockmart.

We make flavors just for them! It’s all about helping our neighbors thrive and giving y’all a little something special right here at home.

Our brand is just supposed to be fun and friendly. We go by the tagline: “A little somethin’ somethin’ in every bite.”

I’m probably most proud of our colors: that bright, poppy pink and black. My wife loved that pink, and we both thought it’d really stand out. It just brings a great, unexpected energy. It makes folks smile, and that’s the kind of joy we try to bake into every cake!

We make cheesecakes for literally any occasion—from a little Tuesday pick-me-up to the centerpiece of a big wedding. Every time we do an event, I feel like we’re making our community a little bit stronger.

What I want folks to know is that when you get a cake from us, you’re not just getting a dessert—you’re getting an experience of connection. You’re tasting something made with a whole lot of love and the good intention of bringing folks together.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Honestly, I mostly just spend my free time listening to things that bring a big ol’ smile to my face.

Now, I know a lot of the big-shot CEOs and folks who run fancy businesses spend all their evenings reading up on how to be more “CEO-ish,” or consuming the latest business talk. And I get it, I really do.

But for me? I just feel like life’s too short to be so serious. I’d much rather put on a good podcast like Good Mythical Morning or lose myself entirely in the world of Harry Potter.

If I’ve got some free time, I just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy a good story. That’s what refills my cup!
