Life & Work with Ally Reid of Sugar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Reid.

Hi Ally, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up watching my mom cook in the kitchen; that was her domain and happy place. I always cherished the moments when she shared her collection of recipes with me. One of my favorite recipes she made was her classic chicken pot pie, and I loved learning the care and detail she put into it. Once I mastered the recipe, I began bartering my homemade pies for services, giving them as gifts to family and friends, or sharing them with those who were going through difficult times.

My mom reminded me of B. Smith, the celebrated restaurateur, lifestyle pioneer, and cookbook author who was graceful, creative, and full of love for the people she cooked for. Even as a single parent, no matter how busy my mom was, she always made time to nourish us. From her, I learned that cooking isn’t just about food; it’s about love, connection, passion, and creativity.

It was 2020 when I had a moment of clarity. After years of working in the corporate world, building someone else’s dream just wasn’t personally fulfilling for me. I realized I wanted to create something more meaningful, something that brought comfort and shared moments back to the table.

I’ve always naturally taken to hosting get-togethers, family birthday parties, and celebrations with friends and loved ones. Over the years, it was the people in my family and close circle who encouraged me to turn my passion into a business, and I love them for it! Their support gave me the confidence to take the leap and start Jubilee’s Pot Pies in 2021!

Soon, I was taking orders and began growing my business with an eye toward quality, nutrition, flavor, and convenience. In my own transition, I’ve found empowerment and satisfaction in making homemade pot pies for my community. What I absolutely love the most is the positive reactions and feedback from my customers, as it fuels my drive and reminds me why I started Jubilee’s in the first place. As Jubilee’s continues to grow, it remains a family effort and a labor of love.

At Jubilee’s Pot Pies, we honor the meals that brought us to the table, where stories were shared, hands were held, and time slowed down. Rooted in family, steeped in tradition, and wrapped in golden crusts, each pie offers a modern take on the classics we never stopped craving, because some flavors don’t just feed us; they remember for us.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every worthwhile endeavor has its hurdles and challenges, and overcoming them is exactly what has made this journey so rewarding. Balancing Jubilee’s Pot Pies with my full-time job and family responsibilities hasn’t been easy, especially while managing growth and maintaining the homemade quality my customers expect. Learning how to scale production without losing that handcrafted touch took some trial and error, particularly while balancing quality, convenience, and nutrition. Even though I stepped away from a corporate path that wasn’t personally fulfilling, I still work full-time while growing my business, with the plan and dream of turning Jubilee’s Pot Pies into my full-time venture!

Marketing has also been a challenge, since I’m managing so much already, however, I’ve learned to be creative and strategic in connecting with customers and growing awareness for the business.

What keeps me going is the support of my family, the encouragement from customers, and the satisfaction of seeing people enjoy and savor my pies! Each challenge has strengthened my resilience, problem-solving, and creativity. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s absolutely worth it!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work at an electronics manufacturing company managing Bill of Material uploads, Engineering Change Orders, and Temporary Deviation Notices. In addition to these responsibilities, I manage several other critical aspects of the workflow that ensure operations run smoothly. My role is very detail-oriented and requires a high level of organization and precision, which is right up my alley. I started in this industry with an administrative background and have enjoyed learning and growing within my role.

I specialize in keeping complex manufacturing data accurate and up-to-date, and I’m known for my organizational skills, thoroughness, and ability to remain calm under pressure. Even on hectic days, I stay focused and efficient, often relying on classical music to help me maintain concentration and flow.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to manage demanding responsibilities without getting stressed, while ensuring everything is done correctly the first time. I feel my sense of calm, focus, and methodical approach really set me apart. I’m able to navigate complex tasks while maintaining accuracy and clarity, which makes a big difference in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me best by being clear and organized in their communication and by respecting timelines; I value efficiency and transparency in collaboration. I’m a strong listener and naturally detail-oriented, so I make sure I understand the team’s goals and needs before taking action, anticipating potential issues and addressing them proactively.

I thrive when there’s open dialogue and mutual support, and I always aim to offer solutions, not just identify challenges. For me, collaboration is about combining strengths and considering different perspectives, because when everyone shares their expertise and ideas and works toward a common goal, the results are stronger and more effective.

Supporting me also means trusting my process and giving me space to manage the details I handle best. I’m most effective when I can stay focused while contributing my organizational skills, calm approach, and thoroughness.

Other businesses or customers can support me by recognizing the value of what Jubilee’s Pot Pies offers: homemade, high-quality meals made with care, flavor, and nutrition in mind. Feedback, word-of-mouth, or partnerships that help bring these meals to more people are incredibly meaningful.
