Exploring Life & Business with Angela Johnson of AJA Notary Training LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Johnson.

Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I served in the U.S. Navy and after completing my service, I was a legal secretary for 10 years in San Diego, CA and in Atlanta Georgia over 22 years. After living in Atlanta for over 20 years, my best friend and ride or die (my husband of 32 years was suddenly diagnosed with a rare terminal cancer). The next 4 years I continued to work as a legal secretary and caregiver fulltime for my husband. After he passed away in January 2018, it was the worse and most difficult time in my life. In October 2019, I decided to quit my job to take care of myself mentally and emotionally from the loss.
The pandemic struck in March 2020. At that time I was very happy that I was not working because of the pandemic. I had a friend that was starting up a notary business and was asking me a lot of questions about the notary laws and dos and don’ts in the notary field. Also, banks were not notarizing documents =, people still needed important documents notarized and companies needed real estate documents notarized. Notaries were considered essential workers and the notary business was very busy. I started a mobile notary business, going to homes and businesses to notarize client documents.

I created a business plan, completed the documents in my county necessary to start a business and created an LLC and a Google page. This is when AJA Mobile Notary Services LLC began. I now run a successful mobile notary business.

This was only the start. People were calling for notary services and asking if I do Apostilles. I knew nothing about Apostilles and This was happening on a regular basis. I decided to research what this was all about. I took 6 months and researched Apostilles services, learned the ends and outs and why Apostilles were needed. Some examples of why this services is needed are: people getting married in another country, moving to another country, moving to another country to teach, children moving to attend school, people getting dual citizenship and more. These documents have to be authenticated and/or legalized before being accepted in the different countries. I learned everything about Apostilles and how to assist in facilitating Apostilles for any document, for use in any country and for all 50 states. This has become a very lucrative service I added to my mobile notary business and Gwinnett Apostille Services was born.

Meeting and interacting with so many different people from various cultures has shown me that there are still good people in the world and therefore, restored my faith in humanity.

I have also started a business to help others start a successful notary business with my training business AJA Notary Training LLC. I train individuals from all 50 states and have trained individuals in approximately 23 states and Hawaii. I train any who wants to start a successful notary business, but specialize in assisting people who are looking for a new career as a business owner, need a part time business or getting ready to retire and want to have their own business. the notary business is a perfect fit for either circumstance.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The main struggles I have had were getting through the pandemic without my husband, It also was a struggle starting this business because my husband was always my number 1 fan in every endeavor that I have undertaken, and each step of the way was the thought that he was not here to walk with me and see my success. Healing from the emotional trauma of grief is a struggle within itself and getting up every day to start all over again took a lot of prayer and strength, Even though I have a successful business, doing it without the person who was always there for me every step continues to be a struggle but I know he would be proud of me. During the pandemic is was a struggle being around people providing this service and trying to stay healthy.

I am most proud that when I train how to start and set up this business, when the training is completed, my clients tell me they know they will be successful, I have more than done my job as a trainer, coach and mentor.
