Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Taneshia Sims of Savvy In Services, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Taneshia Sims.

Hi Dr. Taneshia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Being a business owner has always been a dream deeply rooted in my heart. From the moment I began studying Business Administration as a minor at Auburn University, I knew that entrepreneurship would one day become a significant part of my life’s journey. I’ve always believed that education is one of the few things that can never be taken away, which inspired me to continue learning and growing. My academic journey has taken me from a Bachelor’s in Criminology to multiple advanced degrees, including an M.S. in Criminal Justice, an M.A. in Professional Counseling, an M.B.A. with a concentration in Executive Leadership, and an Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology.

Interestingly, my path didn’t begin with taxes—it began with a dream of owning a youth and event center. However, life had a different plan. While working as a customer service agent in the tax industry, my family fell victim to a tax scam. That experience opened my eyes to how overwhelming and confusing the tax process can be for so many people. It ignited a passion in me to help others avoid the same pitfalls and navigate this essential yet often intimidating area of life with confidence.

In 2021, I took a leap of faith and launched Savvy In Services, LLC. The name “Savvy” perfectly reflects my mission—to be sharp, resourceful, and knowledgeable in guiding individuals and businesses through their financial journeys. Through Savvy In Services, I not only assist with tax preparation but also empower small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs to build a strong foundation for success.

This business is more than just a service—it’s a calling. God has used my life experiences to prepare me for this purpose: to be a blessing to others. Each client I work with reminds me that this isn’t just about numbers or forms—it’s about giving people peace of mind, confidence, and hope. The growth of my company and the steady stream of referrals from satisfied clients are humbling affirmations that I’m walking in my purpose. Helping others has become more than what I do—it’s truly who I am.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Taking the leap of faith to start my own business was far from easy. In the world of tax preparation and business services, regulations are constantly changing and must be closely monitored. It’s an ongoing learning process—especially when preparing returns across multiple states. Operating out of Georgia while also serving clients nationwide means I have to stay informed about the varying tax laws in each state. I spend countless hours studying updates and new regulations each year. It’s not always simple to interpret, but I take pride in knowing what’s right and ensuring my clients receive accurate and reliable service.

Building trust is another essential part of this journey. In this industry, you’re granted access to some of the most personal details of people’s lives, so establishing credibility and maintaining confidentiality are absolutely critical. My biggest personal challenge, however, was learning how to market myself. I’ve always been a “worker bee”—focused on serving others quietly and diligently rather than seeking the spotlight. Transitioning into the role of both business owner and brand ambassador required me to stretch beyond my comfort zone.

Like any business, there have been ups and downs—clients come and go, and early on I had to learn not to take those losses personally. Over time, I’ve come to understand that client turnover is simply part of business growth. Today, I’m grateful for the loyal clients who continue to trust and believe in me. Their confidence reaffirms that my commitment to excellence, integrity, and service is making a lasting impact.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is integrity, education, trust, and financial freedom. These values are at the heart of everything I do. I take great pride in helping my clients not only minimize their tax liability but also gain a deeper understanding of their finances and business operations. For me, it’s never just about completing a tax return—it’s about empowering people with the knowledge to make confident, informed decisions.

Education is truly a cornerstone of my work. I believe knowledge opens doors and provides stability through the inevitable ups and downs of entrepreneurship. I love being an encourager to my clients—whether it’s easing the anxiety that comes with tax season or helping someone turn their dream into a thriving business.

My passion for education and integrity comes from personal experience. Years ago, my family fell victim to a tax scam, and that feeling of helplessness left a lasting impression. It ignited my mission to ensure that no one else has to endure that same uncertainty. I want my clients to know their rights, understand the credits and deductions available to them, and feel secure in every financial decision they make.

At the end of the day, my greatest reward is seeing others gain both confidence and freedom—the kind that comes from being informed, prepared, and supported with honesty and care.
