Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Dasher.
Hi Kaitlin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started photography at a young age, but officially launched my business on January 1st of 2021. The name Katie Mac Photos came from knowing that I knew I wanted to use part of my name in my business. It felt alot more personal and I wanted to show that it wasn’t just my business, but apart of who I was. Katie Mac is a nickname that my family had for me all of my life. My family is why I am who I am today. I was blessed enough to grow up with a very close family who supported eachother in every big and little moment, so using the nickname my family used for me was my little was of honoring them. When I first started out, I would do any kind of photography that I could get my hands on but I quickly fell in love with couples photography and using my photography to tell love stories. Once I shot my first wedding, I never looked back. Love stories are what I have built my business on and truly where I know my heart lies in this business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is always going to have it’s challenges. When you start with nothing but a passion for something that you love and try to turn that into a business, there’s a lot of things you have to do. For me, I’ve had to learn to come out of my shell in a lot of ways. I joke with my friends that I am a different person behind the camera and in my business because I’ve had to let fear not become a factor. You have to learn to put yourself out there in ways I never would’ve imagined. Marketing these days involves alot of social media and learning how to connect with people and show your value through a screen. Owning your own business, you face challeneges every day and some days are easier than others, overall I feel so blessed that almost 5 years since my official business launch, I am still doing what I love.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in love: couples, weddings, maternity, elopements, all those things because I know that’s where my heart is. I love love and everything about it. As a believer, I know that love is the greatest of all things that we are given and because of that I have fallen in love with capturing couples stories. With my photography I strive to be storytelling, I want every gallery that I deliver to be one that couples look at forever, remembering what they looked like, how they felt, and what that season of life represented for them. I not only want to provide my couples with the typical mantel photos that will be passed down through generations, but the photos where they feel their love for one another and the emotions of being together.
