Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Jo.
Matthew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Matthew, and I’m an immigrant who came to the United States 10 years ago. Over the past decade, I’ve been working in the automotive field, and I now own an EV and hybrid repair shop in Roswell, Georgia. Magic has requested an interview, and they’ve asked me to briefly explain my background and current situation
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I first came to the U.S., I didn’t have any connections, tools, or resources. I started from the bottom—working long hours, learning new technologies, and adapting to a new culture and language. Building my own EV and hybrid repair shop took years of persistence, late nights, and constant learning, especially as the industry shifted toward electric vehicles. There were moments when finances were tight and progress felt slow, but I never gave up. Every challenge helped me grow stronger and more skilled, and today I’m proud to be running a trusted shop that helps customers and trains others in this new technology
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the owner of CarTechGA, an EV and hybrid repair shop in Roswell, Georgia. I specialize in advanced diagnostics, battery rebuilding, and electric vehicle training. Over the years, I’ve developed a reputation for taking on complex problems that most shops avoid from Tesla battery repairs to hybrid system reconditioning. What I’m most proud of is helping customers save money by repairing instead of replacing, and also training other technicians to understand EV technology safely and correctly. What sets me apart is my hands-on experience with both mechanical and high-voltage systems, my passion for teaching, and my belief that the future of the auto industry depends on sharing knowledge, not keeping it secret.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as the ability to create something meaningful that helps others and continues to grow beyond myself. For me, success isn’t just about money or recognition it’s about building trust with customers, inspiring people to learn new skills, and turning challenges into opportunities. When I see a customer drive away happy, or a student I trained confidently fixing their first hybrid or EV, that’s real success. It’s about progress, impact, and leaving something better than how I found it.
