In 2017, she brought her vision to life with the opening of LUMIÈRE SALON DE BEAUTÉ in the heart of Alpharetta. The salon reflects her vision of a positive, energetic, and collaborative environment where stylists and clients can experience the best in modern beauty as well as a sanctuary of creativity and elegance where artistry meets intention. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many entrepreneurs, Madellin Bong’s journey to salon ownership was not without its challenges. Opening LUMIÈRE SALON DE BEAUTÉ in 2017 marked a major milestone but it also came with lessons in leadership, resilience, and balance.
“Building a salon from the ground up taught me that success is about more than talent, it’s about perseverance, people, and purpose,” she shares.
From managing a team and nurturing a positive culture to adapting to the ever-evolving beauty industry, Madellin faced each obstacle as an opportunity to grow. Early on, she had to learn how to balance the creative side of her artistry with the business side of ownership, managing operations, finances, and client relationships while still maintaining her signature level of service.
“The biggest challenge was finding harmony between being an artist and being a businesswoman,” she reflects. “I had to learn to delegate, trust my team, and lead with empathy.”
Even through unexpected hardships, such as industry slowdowns, staffing shifts, and changing trends, Madellin remained grounded in her vision: to create a salon that uplifts both clients and stylists.
“Every obstacle has shaped me into a stronger leader,” she says. “It reminded me why I started…to build something meaningful, where creativity, confidence, and community come together.”
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m Master Stylist, colorist, hair extensions specialist and salon owner based in Alpharetta. My work is all about creating customized style, dimensional color, luxurious highlighting and seamless hair extensions that enhance each client’s natural beauty while maintaining the integrity of their hair.
I’m best known for my attention to detail and my ability to truly understand what each client envisions not just how they want to look, but also how they want to feel and express themselves. My approach blends artistry and precision, so every transformation feels effortless, elevated, and personal.
What I’m most proud of is building LUMIÈRE SALON DE BEAUTÉ from the ground up , a space that reflects everything I love about this industry, creativity, collaboration, and confidence. Seeing my clients and my team thrive in that environment is the most rewarding part of what I do.
What sets me apart is my dedication to continuous growth. I’ve trained with international artists in cities like London, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles, and I’m constantly evolving with new techniques and trends. But beyond skill, it’s my genuine passion for connection and care that defines my work. Every client who sits in my chair receives not just beautiful hair, but an experience where creativity, intention and passion come together.”
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve always believed that growth and comfort can’t exist in the same place. Every meaningful chapter in my career has started with a risk, from leaving the security of steady paychecks while I worked at an established salon to open my own and to continuously investing in the growth of the salon.
Opening LUMIÈRE Salon de Beauté in 2017 was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. It meant stepping out of my comfort zone, taking on new responsibilities, and trusting that my vision would resonate with clients and my team. There were moments of uncertainty, but I’ve learned that the best risks are the ones rooted in purpose, not fear.
To me, risk-taking isn’t about being reckless, it’s about believing in yourself enough to take that next step, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. Every risk I’ve taken has led to growth, resilience, and a deeper sense of fulfillment in my work. Without those leaps of faith, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
