Conversations with Debra Mazer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Mazer.

Hi Debra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m an Award-Winning Celebrity Chef, Life Coach, Holistic Wellness Coach, Professional Intuitive, Ordained Spiritual Minister/ Wedding Officiant + New Thought Prayer Warrior. I’m also a Book Author.

I got started as a Chef living in ecovillages in my early 20s where we cooked what we grew. I got my first official Raw Food Chef job in the West End of Atlanta, working in the Hebrew Israelite community, at a place called Everlasting Life, across from Soul Vegetarian. I was the Raw Specials Chef. I am so grateful to have been given that opportunity! I moved to California in 2002 + helped start the 418 Organic Cafe, where I was also a Raw Chef.

In 2001, I got attuned to Reiki and have been a Reiki practitioner ever since. I’ve been a Certified Life Coach for over 15 years, and a Certified Health Coach (graduate of Institute for Integrative Nutrition) for 14 years.

In 2010, I started doing Intuitive Readings professionally. Over the pandemic of 2020, I invested in The Amethyst Biomat, which is a heated infrared crystal mat that I distribute, and also use for my Reiki Clients.

Recently, I’ve been offering Tantric Classes + Healing as well. Life is a constant evolution, and I am a lifelong learner! I have an array of healing modalities at this point, and I like to utilize them together in my sessions, such as Reiki with Affirmative Prayer, or Holistic Health Coaching and Life Coaching together.

I’ve been a writer ever since I was young. I self-published my first Raw Food Recipe Book in 2002, called Little Red Recipes, a handwritten and illustrated zine. My first widely distributed book (listed on Amazon, sold in bookstores) is called Open-Eyed Heart-Wide Haggadah, which came out in 2010. This is a non-Zionist Jewish ritual book, which reflects my heritage, and reclaims my upbringing in new, transformative ways. It’s such an honor to be able to share this book with hundreds of people, who use it every year, in their celebration of Passover.

Another of my popular books is called Retreat Recipes for Yoga Lovers, which contains over 100 gluten-free, soy-free, and plant-based recipes for healing and thriving. This book was published after catering yoga retreats for global yoga icon, Shiva Rea, for 1 year in Malibu, California (Los Angeles).

There are so many ways to tell my story, and so much to share.

I did van life in my early 20’s as well and was a strict raw foodist.

As a white Jewish heritage woman growing up around mostly white Christian people — living and working in Atlanta’s West End, decades ago, opened me up to learning so much about race + I was welcomed into Holistic Afrocentric communities in a way that is very unique. I am so grateful for these experiences + seek to be a bridge of understanding, connection, respect + collaboration across race + culture.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not!

I am a spirit-led woman. I spent many years living outside of the system and bartering my way through life.

I am still working on wealth-building and there is always a project ahead of me. I am determined to leave my legacy in a powerful way.

I had to learn the hard way to develop a morning practice. Staying in touch with my Inner Guidance through practices like journaling, meditation, and breathwork, has spared me a lot of heartache and kept me in alignment with my mission and path.

It is essential to turn down the noise and tune within, when being a creative, and desiring to live an Inspired life, true to your Soul’s Calling on this planet.

I have a free ebook called Morning Rituals Playbook which helps with this! You can find it on my website: DebraMazer.com.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself an Artist, as a Healer and Plant-Based Chef. Being an Artist means to channel, to express, to create — and that’s what I do. Whether it’s through writing, dance, creating edible art, drawing or painting — or tuning into a client’s energy to facilitate a Reiki Session, Intuitive Reading, Affirmative Prayer, or Coaching — or creating a Conscious Community Event — I am a Creative. We are all Artists, and merely need to take the time and space to tap into our Intuition, Creative Gifts, and Divine Guidance. I love helping my clients tap into their Inner Artist and Creative through my Life Coaching and Healing Sessions.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of my favorite books in the Universe is The Fifth Sacred Thing, by Starhawk.
I love using the Happy Cow app when traveling, to find plant-based and vegan-friendly food spots. Everyone must download this app! It’s life-changing!
I recommend reading The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.
The current books on my shelf are My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem, and The Memory Librarian by Janelle Monae.
