Today we’d like to introduce you to Detavia Macey.
Hi Detavia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I worked for someone else and when our goals didn’t a line I left there. I took 2 clients in an extra room in my house and then when I got my last paycheck I got an office space now I have over 200 clients. Ever since then I have been taking clients. I just expanded bigger space in march ‘25 because that one room was getting cramped. Now I’m able to take clients with help of another beauty professional. We do services but also do parties at the office and we try to use herbal solutions when we can. I’m trying to go a more natural way with skincare and hair within the next year.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth. Some months are slower than others. I picked up a part time job back at the nursing home passing out meds. At one moment the worst thing I dealt with was separation with three kids and my office. But some of my clients helped and they didn’t mind me having my kids in the office.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Med tech. Work at nursing home overnight twice a week. Hand out meds to residents. I take pride in knowing I’m helping take care of someone’s loved one. Most of the time they have to work and don’t have time for them. I’m usually with them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Still being open through everything. Having my clients and being able to go back to school for massage is the best part. My weekends are full but it’s worth it.
