Meet Christina Benjamin of TruNu Scalp Hair Replacements

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Benjamin.

Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Christina Benjamin, and I’m the creator of TruNu Scalp™ Hair Replacements. I’ve spent over a decade in the beauty industry, and what started behind the chair as a hairstylist has grown into a mission much bigger than I ever imagined.

I began my career in Detroit, where I built my foundation serving women who wanted to look good and feel even better. But during the pandemic, I saw a major gap in the beauty industry, especially for African American women dealing with alopecia and hair loss. That moment changed everything for me. I wanted to create something that didn’t just cover hair loss, but helped women reclaim their confidence and identity.

That vision became TruNu Scalp™ — a brand built on innovation, compassion, and authenticity. What makes it special isn’t just the hair systems; it’s the way it makes people feel. My work isn’t about trends — it’s about transformation.

Today, I’m based in Atlanta and no longer work strictly behind the chair. My role has evolved into educating, training, and empowering stylists across the country to build sustainable businesses in a niche that truly changes lives. My purpose now is to build a legacy — to create opportunities, grow partnerships, and build a trusted network of professionals who share the same heart for people that I do.

My mission is simple: to restore crowns and confidence, one scalp at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all — and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. As a hairstylist turned CEO and educator, I’ve faced my share of challenges. One of the biggest has been learning how to reposition and rebrand my business on a larger scale. My heart’s desire is to serve my community with new techniques, innovation, and a trusted product line that stylists and clients can truly rely on.

I want stylists to feel empowered, not stressed about where to source high-quality, non-surgical hair replacements. And I want clients to feel confident that what they’re receiving is top-tier, dependable, and made with care. My vision is for TruNu Scalp™ to become a notable, recognizable brand — not only for African American women, but women around the world.

This journey has not been easy. There have been seasons where the path wasn’t clear, but my faith has carried me. I truly believe God has strategically placed certain people in my life to help me keep moving the vision forward, especially in moments when I felt like I couldn’t do it on my own.

What I’ve learned is that there will come a time in your life or your business when you’ll have to step out of your comfort zone and into uncharted territory. But that’s where growth happens. People often say, “Don’t ever change,” but I’ve learned that’s a misconception. Change is necessary. If you’re not growing or evolving, you’re staying stuck — and I’ve chosen growth, even when it’s uncomfortable.

We’ve been impressed with TruNu Scalp Hair Replacements , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I want people to know about TruNu Scalp™ is that this isn’t just another hair company — it’s a movement centered around confidence, beauty, and community. We specialize in non-surgical hair replacement systems designed to create the most natural, scalp-like effect possible, especially for women experiencing different forms of alopecia and hair loss.

We’re known for offering innovative, natural-looking hair systems that allow women to feel like themselves again — whether they choose to wear hair or rock their natural crown. Our offerings include full lace units, poly skin systems, crown toppers, hybrid units, custom coloring, installation services, maintenance, and professional training for stylists who want to enter this specialized field.

What truly sets us apart is that we lead with compassion and authenticity. I built this brand to fill a gap I saw in the beauty industry — a gap for women, especially African American women, who weren’t being represented or served with the level of quality and care they deserved. We’re intentional about creating pieces that look like real scalps and real hair, honoring our textures, tones, and lived experiences.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
When it comes to my personality, I’d say I’ve always been a little dramatic — in the best way 😄. I’m naturally optimistic, outgoing, and a true people person. I love connecting with others, bringing energy into any room I walk into, and I’ve never been afraid to try something new.

Failure has never been part of my mindset. I’ve always believed that if something doesn’t work the first time, you try it again — because sometimes greatness takes more than one shot. That willingness to keep going, even when the path isn’t clear, has carried me through so many seasons of my life and business.

At my core, I’m nurturing, compassionate, caring, and deeply empathetic. That’s not something I learned — it’s just who I am. I’ve always had a heart for people, and no matter how much my brand grows or how much success I achieve, that part of me doesn’t change. I love being a people person. I love seeing others smile. And I love being a source of encouragement and light.
