Today we’d like to introduce you to Antiwan Tucker.
Hi Antiwan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was raised in Lacey, Washington. I moved to Atlanta, to pursue music and attend Clark Atlanta University. I worked in Clayton County government, for a couple of years and did grassroots leadership for the youth. Started working for Costco as a Business Member Rep, which was like a Business Develop role. eventually moved into Management. During my time I Costco, I met some great leaders of industry and politics, who routinely visited my store. One thing about Costco, everyone shops there, from Billionaires to Grammy winning artists to Civil rights leaders, actors and actresses. Once employees get into Costco, they tend to stay which makes promotion tougher. On one of my meetings there, I met Herman G. Russell and after a conversation, he encouraged me to go into sales of financial services. Pursuing love, I moved to LA for a couple years. I separated from Costco and started into financial services in 2015, I worked in every sector of financial services and banking, investments and insurances. After Covid and bouncing around trying to get a picked for an agency. A former colleague introduced me to this opportunity to have my own agency. I jumped at it! I started my Country Financial agency in November 2024, Now, that I am my own boss. I understand the demands of being everything. I understand the double edge sword of having your own freedom to do what you want. The mind shift that has to take place to hold yourself accountable for the outcomes that are occurring. Being an agency owner has many challenges, but it’s so rewarding to help the families in my community. I has been one of the best decisions, I have made.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think anytime you move from being a W2 employee to a business owner, the pathway to success is never linear, there are tons of ups and downs. If you are a person of faith, having a business will definitely grow your faith. Those challenges are opportunities to get better and to use your creativity to be more effective. You have to learn to be disciplined instead of just motivated. Discipline lasts longer than motivation. Learning how to structure my day and drive your business was key for me, when I first started, I was trying to find business from anywhere. I learned where my business was coming from and focused on that. Instead of just working aimlessly. Another key factor to my success was getting good mentorship. Mentorship is vital in avoiding costly pitfalls that can take place in being a new business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in home, auto, life, investments and business insurance. I am committed to the work of providing the best source of information for my customers or my sphere of influence. I am proud when my customers give me referrals from their friends and loved ones. Covid changed my focus of my why I do this. Being entrusted to be there for someone at their darkest moment makes this bigger than money. Once you have given out a life insurance death claim, you realize how important it is to have the right conversations with your customers. I am proud that I have those policies in place and those families get to live out the dreams that their loved ones had for them.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me most is that I make an impact. That I have not lived this life in vain, but made a difference in whomever I encountered. That I am able to provide for my family and my parents are proud of me.
