Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Mauzy.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into birth work began with the home birth of my third child. That experience completely changed my life—it was the first time I truly felt what it meant to trust my body and be fully supported through birth. Surrounded by my midwife and doula, I felt empowered, informed, and in control. Bringing my daughter, Yemaya, into the world in the water and on my own terms opened my eyes to the importance of having that same kind of support available to every birthing person.
After that transformative experience, I knew I wanted to help others feel the same confidence and peace that I did. I completed doula training through DONA International and the National Black Doulas Association, then earned certification as a Community-Based Perinatal Patient Navigator from the Morehouse School of Medicine Center for Maternal Health Equity.
Today, I’m honored to serve families throughout the Atlanta area as a doula and personal trainer, offering support that blends physical wellness, emotional balance, and education. I’ve supported hospital births, home births, and successful VBACs—each one reaffirming that every birth is unique, sacred, and deserving of care that reflects the individual.
What drives me most is advocacy—especially for Black women and families who too often face barriers in maternal health. Through Birthing Waters Doula Service, I aim to create safe, inclusive spaces where every parent feels seen, heard, and empowered to birth on their own terms.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were definitely times in my journey where I struggled with impostor syndrome—questioning if I was qualified enough, experienced enough, or capable enough to do this work. As a Doula, you hold sacred space for others, but in the beginning, I often wondered if I was truly ready for that responsibility. I would compare myself to others in the field, forgetting that everyone’s path and purpose unfold differently.
Over time, I learned that impostor syndrome often shows up when you’re growing—when you’re stepping into a bigger version of yourself. I started to remind myself that my lived experience, my compassion, and my commitment to serving families were just as valuable as any certification. The more I trusted my purpose, the quieter that inner critic became.
Now, I see those moments of doubt as reminders to pause, reflect, and realign. Every challenge has strengthened my confidence and grounded me in why I started to make sure that every birthing person, especially feels seen, supported, and powerful during one of the most transformative experiences of their lives.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Birthing Waters Doula Service was created from a place of love, faith, and purpose — to provide families with the compassionate, personalized support they deserve during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, we specialize in holistic, family-centered care that blends physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness throughout the perinatal journey.
What sets Birthing Waters apart is the integration of doula care with wellness and fitness support. As both a doula and certified personal trainer, I understand how movement, mindset, and body awareness play a vital role in preparing for labor and healing afterward. I offer customized prenatal and postpartum wellness plans, birth education, and emotional support designed to meet each client exactly where they are.
Our philosophy centers on empowerment, education, and cultural awareness. I’m deeply committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where every birthing person feels heard, respected, and informed.
What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the community impact. Birthing Waters isn’t just a business — it’s a movement toward reclaiming birth as a sacred, empowering experience. Each family I support becomes part of a larger mission: to improve birth outcomes, restore confidence in the birthing process, and build a stronger, more connected community of parents.
At Birthing Waters Doula Service, I want readers to know that every birth matters. Every story deserves to be honored. Whether it’s through hands-on doula care, education, or wellness coaching, my goal is to provide evidence-based, heart-centered support that helps families birth in peace, power, and purpose.
What’s next?
I’m excited to expand Birthing Waters Doula Service into a full-service doula agency that provides holistic, culturally centered care for families across Atlanta and beyond. My goal is to build a team of trained doulas dedicated to advocacy, education, and empowerment, while also offering mentorship and training for aspiring doulas. Ultimately, I want Birthing Waters to grow into a trusted community hub for support, healing, and maternal wellness.
