Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Shupier Jones of Justshupier Hairtrendz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Shupier Jones.

Hi Dr. Shupier, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started styling hair 28 years ago—and it all began out of necessity. My mother didn’t take me to the salon, so I learned to do my own hair. I didn’t realize at the time that moment would spark a lifelong passion. The more I styled my hair, the more people noticed. Women began asking me to do theirs, and before I knew it, what started in my home grew into a calling.

Hairstyling became my ministry before I even understood what that meant. Over the years, I’ve mastered every texture, trend, and transformation—quick weaves, sew-ins, silk presses, color treatments, and natural styles—but what truly sets my work apart is the energy and love I pour into each client. When women sit in my chair, they don’t just leave with beautiful hair—they leave feeling renewed, confident, and seen.

Through my journey, I’ve been blessed to style some of the most influential names in entertainment and appear across major platforms such as Lifetime Network, BET, Fox 5 Atlanta (Portia Show) Amazon Prime, TvOne, Vudu (Walmart), Tubi, Hype Hair Magazine, Sheen Magazine, and more. But even with all the exposure, my heart has always been with everyday women—the mothers, daughters, and dreamers who walk through my salon doors needing more than a style.

Behind every hairstyle is a story. For nearly three decades, I’ve listened to women share their pain, hopes, and insecurities while I work. I understand that connection because I’ve lived through pain myself. As a child, I was molested, and it took years to face the trauma, anger, and shame that followed me into adulthood. Hairstyling became my therapy—it was my way of healing others while I was still learning to heal myself.

This healing journey eventually allowed me to branch off into new creative spaces—writing my book “Putting It All on Paper” and creating my luxury handbag brand, The Pink Triangle Collection. Both projects were born from the same passion that started behind the salon chair: turning pain into purpose and inspiring others to walk boldly in their truth.

Today, I see hairstyling as both an art and a purpose. I’ve built a brand that goes beyond beauty—it’s about empowerment, confidence, and transformation. Every style I create tells a story of strength. I’m not just doing hair; I’m helping women rediscover themselves, one crown at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing great ever comes from a smooth road. The real challenge often begins when you face the person in the mirror. It’s taken unwavering dedication and faith to reach where I am today. Being a single mother is tough on its own—but running a business on top of that can feel like a silent battle if you let it.

But when you look back and realize you’ve overcome the obstacles, the failures, and the disappointments, you discover the true meaning of strength. Nothing can defeat you, because God already gave you the power to endure.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a celebrity hairstylist, my business proudly caters to women, men, and children — providing a full range of salon services both behind the chair and on set. I’ve spent years perfecting my craft, mastering diverse techniques across every hair type and texture. Because of that, I never limit myself to just one specialty; versatility is my superpower. Whether it’s precision cuts, flawless installs, silk presses, or creative styling for film and television, my passion is making each client look and feel their absolute best.

What truly sets me apart is my signature shampoo experience, which clients call “the best part of the visit.” In a time when many stylists skip shampooing altogether, I’ve made it a full sensory experience. From the moment they recline in the chair, they’re treated to a spa-like escape — complete with a soft eye cover, soothing background music, a plush recliner, and my signature therapeutic head massage. It’s more than just a wash; it’s relaxation, restoration, and rejuvenation all in one.

Beyond the salon, many know me affectionately as “Aunt.” I host JustShupier Story Time, a heartfelt series where I share life lessons, motivation, and uplifting messages dedicated to my Niecy Poohs — the next generation of young women watching, learning, and growing. I’m also the creator of the viral lollipop trend, which has become a fun and signature part of my brand personality.

Overall, my mission is simple: to provide a safe, welcoming space where clients can not only transform their hair but also release stress, find peace, and feel seen. With every style, story, and smile, I aim to remind my clients that this is more than a salon — it’s a sanctuary where they can truly let their hair down.

What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is doing what I love—especially being the best girl mom I can be. That alone is a full-time job. You don’t realize how much PTSD you endure as a single mother raising children on your own, so it’s incredibly rewarding to watch them grow up healthy, grounded, and becoming productive citizens.

Styling hair is another huge part of my happiness. There’s nothing like seeing the joy and confidence on my clients’ faces—it reminds me that I’m walking in my purpose and doing exactly what I was called to do.
