Today we’d like to introduce you to Micheal Diamond.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Micheal Diamond and I am the owner of King Bo Candles. King Bo Candles is a hand-crafted candle making business that specializes in Soy Wax Candles, Room/Linen Sprays, and Wax Melts. Our story begins in December of 2023. My grandpa Bo passed away and it was such a huge loss to me and my family. We were devastated. The time before his passing, I planned on becoming a candle maker as I was in the first few months of my first college semester. When my grandpa Bo passed, I asked my Nana for permission on naming my business after him. After the approval, I began on marketing and creating for King Bo Candles. A month or so after his passing, King Bo Candles had begun candle making and selling, without an idea in the world of knowing absolutely nothing about candle making, I did it because I wanted to honor him. Today, I continue to honor him. Over the last year and half, I’ve grown so much within this business. Some of our best sellers are Nostalgia which is a Fruit Loops candle fragrance, Bo’s Den which is our King Bo Candles original in the fragrance of Mahogany Teakwood, ‘It’s Peaches Hunny’, an all peach fragrance, and God’s Grace, a Cocoa Butter Cashmere candle. These fragrances are just to name a few and we truly appreciate all of the love and support our customers give us.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles along the way has been finding my niche and what fits our brand to make us stand out, being a college student and navigating college life and business life, and the mental challenges of having a business and always having ideas and questions and concerns. Additionally, thinking back to when I started, I began at a time of grief. It wasn’t easy but I was able to pull through and I have been with all of my obstacles and challenges.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Again, I specialize in soy wax candles. Over the last year and half, we’ve had a few different sizes in our candle vessels. We’ve had 4 ounces, 10 ounces, 12 ounces and 14 ounces. We are truly proud of being able to create candles with multiple different fragrances. We’re looking to expand our fragrances. Some of our requests have been lavender, laundry scents, and musk scents. Additionally, we’re also known for our amazing wax melts and room sprays. They get a lot of attention. One of our scents are in the fragrance of the Red, White, and Blue Bomb Pops Freeze Pops. Everyone loves how it smells! It is one of my favorites. As for our wax melts, I think my top favorite would be Pancakes. They smell like maple syrup and warm fluffy pancakes.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
They say when you start a business you will invest a ton of your own money into it before you start gaining money. Over the last year and half, I’ve probably taken a huge risk by spending over thousands of dollars just to buy anything I need for my business. It was not the best decision, but it was a decision that has helped me until this point.
