Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle D. Hudson.
Hi Michelle D., it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story began long before I ever knew it was a calling. I started doing hair at just 11 years old, and by 16, I was already working in a salon. I became licensed in three states—Michigan, Florida, and Georgia—and eventually earned my instructor’s license as well. But for me, doing hair was never just about beauty; it was ministry. I always say, “I can’t do hair without doing ministry,” because it’s through those chairs that I’ve prayed, encouraged, and spoken life into countless women over the years.
That heart for healing and empowerment led to the birth of God’s Girls United, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women and young girls heal, serve, and walk boldly in their God-given identity. What started as a simple obedience to God’s voice has now grown into a movement with workshops, mentorship programs, and our signature initiative—the God’s Girls Academy: Crowned to Serve (S4RAJ). Through it, we help women discover who they are in Christ and equip them to serve their communities.
Now, God’s Girls United is stepping into a new season—our own headquarters, which will serve as a hub for healing, leadership training, and community outreach. Alongside that, my vision for Beyond Thee Hair Studio is coming to life—an empowering space where beauty, business, and purpose meet. Each suite will be more than just a salon station; it’s a launching pad for women entrepreneurs ready to build their own legacies.
Everything I’ve done, from Beyond Thee Hair to God’s Girls United, has been about one message: that healing is possible, purpose is waiting, and we are crowned to serve and healed to lead.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has absolutely been a faith journey. I’m a mother of six, and from the very beginning, I had to figure things out one step at a time—how to make money, how to grow, how not to settle for being a basement stylist. Every stage of my life has felt like a divine setup for the next.
When I stopped doing hair in 2019, I didn’t know exactly where God was taking me, but I knew He was calling me higher. After having my youngest in 2021, I shifted my focus completely to God’s Girls United, and that’s when everything started to unfold. The people I thought would stay didn’t, and the ones I didn’t expect to show up did—but it all taught me to trust God’s voice more than anything.
There have been setbacks, moments of uncertainty, and seasons of silence, but also tremendous growth. Out of those experiences came my book It’s Time to Heal, Sis: The Unstoppable Woman and the journals that followed. Each project was born from prayer, healing, and perseverance.
Now, we’re stepping into something even greater—a full nonprofit headquarters and community hub where women and girls can come to heal, grow, and connect. The journey has been anything but easy, but it’s been worth every step. The best is still ahead.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
God’s Girls United, Inc. is a faith-based nonprofit organization committed to helping women and girls heal, serve, and lead with confidence and purpose. Our mission is to empower the whole woman—mind, body, and soul—by providing spaces, programs, and resources that promote spiritual growth, emotional healing, and personal development.
What started years ago behind a salon chair as heartfelt ministry conversations with clients has now evolved into a full-fledged movement. I’ve always believed that beauty and healing go hand in hand, and that same belief birthed the vision for our upcoming headquarters, Beyond Thee Hair Studio. This will not just be a salon—it will serve as the God’s Girls United headquarters and a community empowerment hub.
Inside the building will be multiple suites, each operated by women who serve and empower others in their own unique way. The vision is to have a space where therapy, legal assistance, wellness services, veterans’ resources, and holistic care can coexist under one roof—all geared toward uplifting and equipping women and girls. It’s about creating an environment where women can come to heal, rebuild, and thrive.
One of our cornerstone programs, The Hidden Diamond Beyond the Hair Mentorship Program, will also operate from this location. This program teaches young women the art of beauty, but more importantly, it mentors them on confidence, purpose, and character. It’s about discovering the “hidden diamond” within—helping them see their value beyond their circumstances or their reflection.
What sets God’s Girls United apart is that we don’t just preach healing—we create the space and tools for it. We are known for blending spirituality, practicality, and community together. From The God’s Girls Academy: Crowned to Serve (S4RAJ) to our Healing Experience Workshops and our Crowning & Collaboration Conference, everything we do is designed to bring transformation and unity among women.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of our authenticity and impact. This isn’t just an organization—it’s a movement that reminds women they are chosen, capable, and unstoppable. Whether through prayer, mentorship, or empowerment programs, our message remains the same: “Crowned to Serve. Healed to Lead.”
I want readers to know that God’s Girls United isn’t just about religion—it’s about restoration. It’s about helping women step into the best version of themselves, find healing in their story, and realize they can still shine after the storm. The best is yet to come as we prepare to open our headquarters and continue building spaces where purpose and healing meet.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Atlanta and the surrounding areas is the sense of opportunity and connection. There’s such a strong spirit of creativity, entrepreneurship, and faith here. I’ve met so many people with big dreams and even bigger hearts—people who want to build something that makes a difference. The diversity of voices, stories, and talents in this city is inspiring, and it reminds me why I love serving in this community. It feels like a place where purpose and vision can truly come alive.
What I like least is that sometimes, in a city this busy and fast-moving, people can lose sight of unity. There’s so much potential for collaboration, but often we work in silos instead of coming together. I believe if more of us connected our resources, gifts, and platforms, we could transform not just our city but generations to come. My prayer is to be part of that change—to keep creating spaces that bring people together with purpose, healing, and love.
