Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinesha Heard.
Quinesha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in the heart of Savannah, Georgia, food was more than just nourishment—it was love, connection, and celebration. In my family, Sunday dinners were sacred. The table would overflow with home-cooked dishes, laughter, and stories, but the real magic always came after the plates were cleared: dessert time. That was when joy truly filled the room.
When I started my own family, I naturally carried on that tradition. Baking sweet treats for my husband and daughter became my love language. I’ll never forget the sparkle in their eyes when I brought out something homemade—those moments warmed my heart more than anything else.
One Valentine’s Day, I made chocolate-dipped strawberries for them, and a friend happened to see a photo. “You should sell those!” she said. At the time, I laughed it off—I’d never imagined turning my little kitchen experiments into a business.
But life has a way of revealing our gifts in unexpected ways. That same year, I decided to bake and decorate my daughter’s birthday cake myself. When I brought it out, everyone was amazed—not just by how it looked, but how it tasted. Soon after, a neighbor asked if I could make cakes for her children’s birthdays. Then came an order from my church pastor and first lady. After tasting my cake, they prayed over me and told me that God had given me a gift. That moment planted a seed in my heart. And just like that, Quin’s Sweet Treats was born.
At first, I started small—posting photos of my cakes and treats on social media, not thinking much of it. But the response was overwhelming. Compliments poured in, and soon, so did orders. What began as an occasional weekend project turned into something much bigger—first monthly, then weekly, and before I knew it, I was baking every single day.
When the first request came in for a wedding cake, I was both excited and terrified. A wedding cake felt so monumental, such an important part of someone’s special day. But the moment I saw a bride’s face light up when she saw her cake, I knew this was exactly where I was meant to be.
Today, I’m proud to create custom wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and special-occasion desserts that help people celebrate life’s sweetest moments. By day, I’m an assistant principal—another role I love deeply—and when I’m not at school, I’m in the kitchen, covered in flour and frosting, creating joy one cake at a time.
One of my favorite things to do is surprise my teachers with treats as a small token of appreciation. Seeing their smiles reminds me why I started all this in the first place: to bring happiness through something made with love.
For me, Quin’s Sweet Treats isn’t just about cakes—it’s about community, faith, and gratitude. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the sweetest blessings rise when you least expect them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has been anything but smooth. Along the way, I’ve faced my share of challenges and hard lessons. In the beginning, my biggest struggle was finding the perfect balance between flavor and structure. A cake should always be moist and delicious, but when you’re creating tiered wedding cakes or intricately decorated designs, stability is just as essential.
I’ll never forget the day a customer’s feedback on my red velvet cake brought me to tears. It stung deeply—but it also sparked something in me. From that moment, I made it my mission to perfect that recipe. I tested, tweaked, and tried again and again until I achieved the ideal balance of texture, taste, and beauty. Today, I can proudly say that my red velvet cake can stand alongside any bakery or restaurant’s version—it’s that good. But it took countless trials, a few tears, and a whole lot of determination to get there.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve always considered myself both an artist and a creator at heart. When I first started Quin’s Sweet Treats, my focus was simply on making desserts that tasted delicious. Over time, as I found my place in the world of custom cakes, my passion evolved into something deeper—an expression of vision, artistry, and meticulous attention to detail.
What truly sets me apart is the intention behind every creation. Each time I step into the kitchen, I begin with prayer. I pray that the cakes taste wonderful, that I capture my customer’s vision perfectly, and that my work brings joy to their celebration. Every cake I design is infused with that spirit of gratitude and purpose.
I also believe deeply in the beauty of simplicity. There’s something timeless and graceful about a natural, classic, and elegant cake—one that quietly commands attention as the centerpiece of a wedding, party, or special occasion.
What I’m most proud of, however, is my dedication to growth and service. I’m constantly learning new techniques and refining my skills until I master them, and I take great pride in providing an exceptional customer experience. My goal is always the same: to ensure that every client feels valued, seen, and completely delighted with what I’ve created for them.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the things I love most about Atlanta is its rich, diverse culture. The city brings together people from all over the world, and that diversity is reflected in the stories and celebrations I get to be a part of through my cakes. There’s nothing more heartwarming than hearing a customer say, “Your red velvet cake tastes just like my grandmother’s from Louisiana,” or when a newly engaged couple tells me, “We just moved here, and we’re so glad we found you.” Moments like those remind me how deeply food connects us, no matter where we come from.
If I had to choose a least favorite part of Atlanta life, it would definitely be the traffic. There have been times I’ve sat for hours, nervously inching forward, praying that a wedding cake in the back seat makes it to the venue on time—those are truly nerve-wracking moments!
