Community Highlights: Meet Michael Kanner of Anchored Mind

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Kanner.

Michael Kanner

Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up playing a few different sports, but martial arts was what stuck with me, eventually becoming my first job as an instructor. When it was time to look for a big boy job near the end of college, I was fortunate to have been hired at Apple. After falling in love with the company, I immersed myself in their culture and became a manager. As my passion and experience grew, I was connected to the global training team. It was a dream come true. And then, our founder, Steve Jobs, passed away. The company made some changes and I lost the path I was pursuing. Meanwhile, on the home front, my family had imploded. Mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis several years before and was only getting worse. This terrible and mysterious disease only exacerbated the pre-existing issues in my parents’ long troubled marriage. Instead of getting help or even pursuing divorce, my father decided to take his own life. In short, the combination of these circumstances became the launch pad for pursuing a career in mental health. I went back to school to pursue a masters in clinical mental health counseling with specialization in marriage & family therapy and trauma recovery. Within my first semester, I met my incredible wife through mutual friends. I spent the first several years learning the ropes of private practice and eventually took a leap of faith to start my own. This was the beginning of Anchored Mind. Since adolescence, I have dreamed about building something similar to my grandparents — they worked together and built a motel, which became a neighborhood staple, promoting community. There are no accidents. My wife is a registered dietitian nutritionist. Our dreams aligned when we not only began working together, but started to expand our group practice. The combination of counselors and dietitians just made sense and was a unique approach to holistic healthcare. We are currently on our way to completing our vision by adding the third arm of fitness. Next year, we will be opening a new facility that combines counseling, nutrition and fitness in downtown Roswell. We could not be more excited. Our mission is to essentially prevent what happened in my family by investing in others, starting with each individual’s mental, nutritional and physical health, and supporting their marriage, parenting, and relationships beyond. As I look back on the many experiences I had teaching, training, and investing in others, it makes total sense where I landed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nope! This journey has tested our marriage, kept us away from our children, challenged our lifestyles, and strained some relationships. But at this point, we can say it has only made us stronger individually and together, and we anticipate it all only getting better.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a multidisciplinary private practice that combines mental health counseling, nutrition consultation & testing, and fitness training & classes. Each area includes several types of specialization through our professionally trained team members. We are known for our unique approach to holistic health and truly embracing a total lifestyle approach. As far as we know, Anchored Mind is the only facility that will be offering our unique combination of services: individual, couples, and family therapy, nutrition counseling and testing, a healthy cafe with grab & go food, personal training and group fitness. We are incredibly proud of what we are building and cannot wait to open our newly renovated facility in spring 2026. Currently, we operate a small office in downtown Roswell, focusing on counseling and nutrition.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
We value clinical excellence, compassionate care, with a focus on community and generosity.
