Inspiring Conversations with Carissa Murray of Happy Lotus Skin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Murray.

Carissa Murray

Hi Carissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I actually started my career in music. I was one half of a duo called St. Beauty. After the group disbanded, and especially after the pandemic, I decided to dig into something that had always interested me: skincare and wellness. I had my own skin journey; texture, stubborn breakouts, and dark spots. So I understood how much your skin impacts not just how you look, but how you feel moving through the world. So I decided to enrolled at Paul Mitchell The School Esani, and became a licensed esthetician. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, so my goal has been to create a space where people feel completely comfortable and confident in their own skin. That’s what led me to start building Happy Lotus Skin, it’s all about blending real results in skincare with genuine care and connection.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. Starting over after leaving music (touring, rehearsals etc…) was a big shift. I had to rebuild my confidence in a totally new field. There were moments where I questioned myself, like, “Am I really doing the right thing?” The hardest part was learning to be seen in a new way. When people know you for one thing and you change, it can feel like you’re starting from scratch. Its teaching me to trust the process, keep showing up even when it’s uncomfortable and understand that I am still an artist and I don’t have to abandon that part of me, I’m expanding.

We’ve been impressed with Happy Lotus Skin, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Happy Lotus Skin, is all about helping people reconnect with their skin in a real and intentional way. I specialize in corrective skincare; acne, hyperpigmentation, texture and restoring your healthy glow. I offer customized facials, dermaplaning, LED therapy, chemical peels, waxing, microdermabrasion, lymphatic facial massages, and neck massages. I combine skin treatments with a calming, renewed and relaxing experience. Every facial is customized. I want every client to leave glowing and educated about their skin. One thing that really sets us apart is something I created called the “Happy Lotus Report Card”. It’s my personalized skin assessment system that lets clients actually see their progress. I track their skin health, improvement, and consistency over time, kind of like grading system, from where they started to where they’re headed. It makes results visual, fun, and motivating. I’m most proud that the brand feels authentic and intentional. It’s for people who want results, but also want an experience that honors their whole self.”

What are your plans for the future?
I am focused on growing my clientele & growing professionally as a business owner. I want to keep expanding Happy Lotus Skin, adding more advanced treatments and eventually building a full skin care line. I would love to also have a beauty and wellness space to offer other beauty & wellness professionals to grow their businesses. Overall, I am looking forward to creating opportunities, more education and more connection, not just treating skin, but helping people build confidence and community through it.
