Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Calhoun.
Hi Ethan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Ethan, but most people know me as ‘E.’ I started developing the idea for Do Better Clothing in 2017 during my senior year of college and officially released my first piece in 2018. I’m originally from Indianapolis, and I’ve been based in Atlanta for nearly five years now.
Since launching my brand and making that move, I’ve grown in many ways—both creatively and personally. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is to create from a place of joy. Stay true to what inspires you, enjoy the process, and design pieces you would actually wear yourself. At the end of the day, your work should be a reflection of you.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every part of the journey has been worth it. I’m still growing and learning who I am as a designer and as a person. It’s not always easy to find joy while figuring out how to navigate life, but when you stay grounded, trust the process, and lean on God for guidance, you start to find your path. I’ve learned to be okay with where I am right now, understanding that this journey is far from over—and that’s what makes it beautiful.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a creative designer best known for my brand, Do Better Clothing. While fashion is at the core of what I do, my creativity extends beyond clothing into home décor and other accessories. What I’m most proud of is building “Do Better” from the ground up and the genuine connections I’ve made along the way.
“Do Better” stands for something bigger than me—it’s a reminder and a movement. The designs are meant to catch your eye and spark reflection—quite literally ‘eye-catching.’ Through my work, I hope to inspire people to keep pushing, keep improving, and to always strive to do better. Because no matter how small your efforts may feel, someone is always watching—and your growth can inspire theirs.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ve learned it’s always best to be yourself—whether you’re networking or just connecting with people in general. Authenticity draws people in; they can feel when something is real. Throughout my journey, I’ve had the opportunity to meet some incredible individuals who’ve supported and inspired me along the way. I did have one mentor who eventually moved to another state, but that experience taught me the value of genuine guidance and connection. I’m definitely open to finding a new mentor as I continue to grow personally and through Do Better Clothing.
