Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Presson.
Hi Kelsey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for fashion and styling! I grew up loving Barbies and American Girl Dolls. In high school I worked at a prom and bridal boutique, and I loved helping brides find their “YES to the dress” moment.
I studied Fashion Merchandising at the University of South Carolina, worked at a local bridal boutique, and even interned with Gucci in Chicago and NYC. (Seriously, a dream come true.) After graduation, I joined a woman-owned jewelry boutique chain in Columbia, SC, where I got to buy and design jewelry, which sparked my love for creating.
After getting married and having kids, we moved to Georgia while Covid was still in full swing and I shifted into full-time mama mode. My son was diagnosed with autism and I needed to be available at all times to get him to all the therapies and early intervention that was recommended. I wanted a creative outlet that fit my new life. That’s when Rosebrook was born! Earrings have always been my favorite accessory, they can transform an outfit instantly and they are typically pretty affordable! So with that, Rosebrook began. I’ve always worked for small, women-owned businesses, and now I’m so proud to have one — supporting other amazing women along the way. Most of the lightweight pieces I create with are from USA, women owned businesses. I create 80% of my earring styles but I buy 20% from other women owned brands too.
Most days you’ll still find me in mom mode, shuttling my kids back and forth to school & therapy but I still have that passion for fashion and I love creating lightweight, statement earrings that can be worn all day long!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Change is something I’m not super fond of but with business, you have to be willing to change and adapt. I started Rosebrook with earrings that I bought from other businesses.
Then I realized I loved supporting other small businesses and I started to purchase from woman owned businesses.
After I did my first Holiday Market, people kept asking me “did you make these?!” And I really wanted to be able to say, yes I did’! I wanted to create my own collections while still supporting other women owned small businesses and that’s exactly what I’m doing today. So Rosebrook has evolved over the last 3 years but I think it’s importing to get comfortable with change so you can grow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I see someone wearing a piece of jewelry that I designed/made, it is such a pinch me moment. It never gets old. I’m always looking at people’s accessories. for inspiration and to see what’s currently popular in my area.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My kids have changed my life and the happiness they bring me every day from all the little things is the best thing in the world! Autism has made me focus a lot more on the little things because
they really are big things! And we celebrate all the things! My life is a mix of chaos and confetti. Making earrings and getting creative is therapeutic for me. It has given me a creative outlet and something that’s just for me and when I sit down to make a new collection, that makes me happy & excited too!
