Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyuna Anderson.
Hi Keyuna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story didn’t start with privilege, it started in survival mode. I grew up around instability, addiction, and trauma, and for a long time I was just trying to make it from one day to the next. I started braiding hair as a teenager just to earn money, and escape from my trauma, but it quickly became more than that, my chair became a safe space where women came to feel seen and empowered.
From there, my path evolved. I gained medical experience, went back to school for psychology, and eventually realized that everything I had survived had a purpose. Today, I’m an entrepreneur, author, and founder of multiple projects centered around beauty, healing, and breaking generational cycles. My mission is to show people that their past doesn’t disqualify them..it prepares them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, my road has been anything but smooth. I faced instability, homelessness, and trauma at a young age. I grew up around addiction and generational patterns that I had to fight my way out of. As an adult, I dealt with financial setbacks, toxic relationships, and moments where I had to rebuild my life from scratch, mentally, emotionally, and financially.
There were times I questioned myself, times I didn’t know how I was going to make it, and times where starting over felt like a lifestyle. But those struggles taught me resilience, resourcefulness, and grit. They made me the woman I am today and shaped the passion behind everything I create, because I don’t speak about “overcoming,” I lived it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Braids and things by Key LLC?
Professionally, I’m an entrepreneur who builds businesses with purpose. I started in the beauty industry with Braids and Things by Key, where I not only style hair but also teach digital courses to help other stylists create income and confidence. I’m also developing a new wig innovation project to make wigs easier and more secure for women dealing with hair loss or lifestyle needs.
Beyond beauty, I’m building my own social media platform that highlights Black culture and mental wellness, and I founded the Overcomers Youth Empowerment Program to support teens who come from trauma or unstable environments.
Every business I create connects back to my mission which is helping people feel seen, empowered, and capable of breaking their own cycles.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is breaking generational cycles and empowering others to heal and thrive. I’ve lived through trauma, instability, and loss, so I know how much a lack of guidance and support can shape a life. That’s why I focus on creating spaces through my businesses, programs, and projects where people feel seen, supported, and capable of creating a better future for themselves. It’s not just about success; it’s about transformation, impact, and leaving a legacy that matters.
