Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary Whyte.
Zachary, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got my start in construction shortly after serving in the U.S. Navy, where I spent several years working on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6). When a fire broke out aboard the ship, I was part of the team that helped control the damage and prepare it for decommissioning and transport — an experience that taught me discipline, leadership, and how to work under extreme pressure.
After leaving the Navy, I knew I wanted to build something of my own — something that combined that same sense of mission and integrity. I started small, taking on residential remodels and roofing jobs, learning the business from the ground up. Over the years, through a lot of long days, lessons learned, and word-of-mouth growth, I built what is now Integrity Construction, Roofing & Remodeling.
Today, we’re a licensed general contracting firm handling everything from residential rebuilds to commercial roofing projects and state contracts. What sets us apart is our focus on doing things the right way — not the easy way — and taking care of both our clients and our crews. As a service-disabled veteran, I’ve made it a point to build a company that provides real opportunities to other veterans and working-class families.
It’s been a journey filled with ups and downs, but every step has been worth it. I started with a toolbox, a truck, and a drive to create something meaningful — and now we’re building projects and partnerships that make a lasting impact in the communities we serve.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road — but it’s been worth every bump along the way.
When I first started my company, I made no money during the first year of operations. I was figuring everything out from scratch — learning the business side, handling jobs, managing clients, and trying to keep the lights on. All while my wife and I were welcoming two kids into the world. It was an incredibly stressful time, but also one that showed me what real drive and purpose look like.
There were times when I questioned if I was doing the right thing — when I was working late nights, missing family moments, and wondering if it would all pay off. But those early struggles built the foundation for everything that came after. I learned how to operate lean, how to adapt when things didn’t go as planned, and how to build a company that lasts.
Looking back, I’m proud that I didn’t quit when things got hard. Those experiences taught me that success isn’t about how easy the road is — it’s about how committed you are to keep going when everything tells you to stop.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Integrity Construction, Roofing & Remodeling, we specialize in ground-up construction — from new residential builds to full-scale remodels and roofing projects. While we handle everything from start to finish, what we’re truly known for is our customer service and honesty.
We’ve built our reputation on doing the right thing, even when no one’s watching. I’m most proud of the moments where we’ve been able to step in and help people when they’re in need — especially when no one else would. Whether it’s a family dealing with storm damage, a homeowner struggling to get insurance approval, or someone who just needs a contractor they can trust, we make sure they’re taken care of like our own.
What really sets us apart is our willingness to sacrifice a dollar to make sure our customers are happy and that we deliver on our word. We don’t chase the quick profit — we focus on long-term relationships and lasting results. That’s what Integrity is built on — doing good work, treating people right, and standing behind everything we build.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is my family. They’re the reason I get up every day and push as hard as I do. Owning a business comes with a lot of long nights and tough days, but knowing I’m building something that supports them — and sets an example for my kids — makes it all worth it.
My family keeps me grounded and reminds me why I started this journey in the first place. At the end of the day, success to me isn’t just about business growth or money — it’s about being able to provide, to be present, and to show my kids that with hard work and integrity, you can build the life you dream of.
