We recently had the chance to connect with Chip Morris and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Chip , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
What’s surprised me most is how deeply people want to change when they’re given the right tools and respect. Our learners, many of whom are navigating court mandates, often begin with skepticism. But when they realize that our courses are built to help them reflect, not just “check a box,” their mindset shifts. They engage, they open up, and they begin to connect the dots between accountability and opportunity. It’s also been eye-opening how much probation officers and court staff appreciate simplicity; they don’t need more systems, they need one that works. That balance between empathy and efficiency has taught us a great deal about what real progress looks like.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Chip Morris, founder of what started as Civics Academy—and what’s now ProCivica®. We help courts, probation officers, and other justice partners deliver online mandated education that actually changes behavior and improves lives.
What sets us apart is our ProCivica Behavioral Civics Method, which integrates practical life skills and civic understanding with proven behavioral science. It’s not about punishment; it’s about helping people understand the “why” behind their actions so they can make better choices.
We’ve built courses that are affordable, effective, and easy to access – from a smartphone or any device. We are currently launching ProCivica Serves, a new online community service program that helps learners understand the purpose of giving back while earning verified service credit. In early 2026, we’ll be releasing courses on Domestic Violence, Gang Prevention, and Divorced Parenting to help families and communities heal.
It’s an exciting time. We’re rebranding, modernizing, and expanding nationwide. However, our core mission remains unchanged: to make justice education more human, more impactful, and more accessible.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Listening. I’ve learned more from listening to our partners and participants than from any textbook or meeting. When a probation officer tells us what would make their day easier or when a learner shares how one of our courses helped them rebuild trust or stay out of trouble, that’s the real feedback loop that drives everything we do.
When did you last change your mind about something important?
I used to believe that real growth couldn’t happen online. I thought you needed to be in a classroom, face-to-face, to make it work. But I’ve seen the exact opposite. When you meet people where they are – on their phones, at night after work, wherever life finds them – you create access. And access leads to accountability. That realization changed everything for me.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That compliance equals success. Too often, programs focus on checking boxes instead of changing lives. The other major misconception is that technology alone can solve problems. It can’t. AI and online learning are incredible tools, but they only work when they stay human-centered. That’s our focus at ProCivica – using technology to enhance empathy, not replace it.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I see the ripple effect of what we do, it brings me a sense of peace. When a probation officer says, “This made my job easier,” or a participant tells us, “I actually learned something that changed how I think,” those moments make every late night and long day worth it.
Outside of work, I find that same peace in nature – traveling to new places, hiking quiet trails, or being out on the water. Being outdoors has always been my reset button. It reminds me to slow down, breathe, and find a sense of balance. Because when you take care of people, your team, and yourself, everything else falls into place.
