Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Brittney Holmes Jackson

Brittney Holmes Jackson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Brittney, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
As cliché as this is for a parent to say, it’s definitely my kids. I have two toddler boys (CJ – 3 and Benjamin – 2) and they genuinely bring me the most joy, especially when I spend so much time holding space for pain, grief and harm. They are so carefree, worry-free, and independent. They laugh at the silliest of things and remind me that life is too short to allow the weights to bring us down. It’s important to enjoy what we can while we can.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
What’s up! I am Brittney Holmes Jackson, a Marriage and Family Therapist, national bestselling author, and founder of Brittney Holmes Jackson & Co., a private mental health and wellness agency rooted in the belief that healing begins with the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. My work bridges the gap between faith and mental health, helping individuals, families, and especially women, navigate trauma, break generational patterns, and write new narratives of resilience and restoration.

After spending over 15 years in education, I transitioned into the mental health field because I saw the need for deeper emotional and psychological support beyond academics. That shift birthed my passion for creating safe spaces where people can heal, grow, and thrive authentically.

What makes BHJ & Co. unique is that we don’t just focus on talk therapy—we integrate therapeutic writing practices that allow clients to process their pain, find meaning in their experiences, and use their stories as tools for healing. I’ve witnessed how powerful storytelling can be in helping people reclaim their voice and their peace.

I am also deeply involved in community mental health, serving youth and adults across Metro Atlanta through trauma-informed care and group programs that emphasize emotional wellness, parenting support, and holistic healing.

I have a future goal of expanding BHJ & Co. into a full ecosystem that includes a whole health branch, continuing education for professionals in the helping field, and literary publishing for those who desire to share their stories with the world. Everything I do is guided by the same mission: to help people turn their pain into purpose and their stories into healing.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed my worth was directly tied to my achievements. I grew up being the “all A’s” student—the one who collected awards, set goals, and checked every box. By the time I became a national bestselling author as a teenager, that belief was deeply ingrained in me: the more I accomplished, the more I mattered.

While achievement opened doors and created opportunities, it also fueled a quiet perfectionism that made it hard to rest, make mistakes, or simply be. I carried that mindset into adulthood, and even as a therapist and entrepreneur, I’ve had to confront the lie that productivity equals value.

I’m actively unlearning that now. My healing journey has taught me that my worth isn’t something I have to earn—it’s something I inherently possess. I’ve learned to celebrate progress over perfection, to rest without guilt, and to honor who I am instead of what I do. That’s still a daily practice, but it’s one that brings me closer to the peace I help my clients seek.

Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
For sure! I remember the first time I sat across from my own therapist… because every therapist should have a therapist, She became the person who held space for the parts of me I’d spent years hiding. My fears, my doubts, my shame, the pieces of me that felt “too much” to name out loud.

For the first time, I felt completely seen and safe without needing to perform or prove anything. She didn’t just listen to my words, she heard my heart. She helped me see the depth of “why” I was experiencing what I was and not just focusing on my feelings. This has given me such deep empathy for my own clients because I know what it feels like to be met with grace, not judgment.

Our sessions have been a space of healing, but also a space of freedom. This freedom allows me to be my full self, not just the healer or the high achiever. It’s reminded me that even those who pour into others deserve to be poured into, and that vulnerability isn’t weakness, it’s actually where real transformation begins.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One project I’m deeply committed to—no matter how long it takes—is building a holistic wellness center alongside my husband, who is a medical doctor. Our shared vision is to create a one-stop destination for whole-person wellness, where mental, physical, and spiritual health intersect under one roof.

I want to build a space where people can receive therapy, medical care, nutrition guidance, and holistic treatments all in one place—with a community-centered model that makes wellness accessible to everyone, regardless of insurance or income. Too often, people have to choose between taking care of their mental health or their physical health because of barriers like cost, time, or stigma. We want to remove those barriers.

This center will bring together practitioners from multiple disciplines—therapists, physicians, nutritionists, fitness instructors, holistic healers—all working collaboratively to support the whole person, not just their symptoms.

It’s a big vision, but it’s one that’s been on my heart for years. I see it as the natural evolution of everything I’ve built through Brittney Holmes Jackson & Co.—a space where faith, healing, and accessibility meet. Even if it takes years to bring it to life, I know it will happen in divine timing.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was a light—that I showed up with authenticity, compassion, and purpose, and left the world a little more healed than I found it. My greatest desire is to make a lasting impact in the mental health industry by helping people believe that healing is possible, that hope is real, and that their stories matter.

I want to be remembered as someone who helped others find the courage to tell their truth, to face their pain with grace, and to see themselves as whole—not broken. Through my work, my writing, and my life, I hope to remind people that healing isn’t linear, but it is sacred.

But just as importantly, I want the story told about me to include how I practiced what I preached—that I didn’t just teach healing, but lived it. That I made room for rest, joy, and balance while serving others. That I honored myself the same way I encouraged others to.

If my life can be a reflection of hope, faith, and wholeness—a reminder that you can serve others while still taking care of yourself—then I’ll know I did what I was called to do.
