Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Wesley Felix of Fairburn

We recently had the chance to connect with Wesley Felix and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Wesley, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building is the foundation of discipline and perseverance that lives behind my brand. Most people see the finished candle or the polished scent experience, but what they don’t see are the countless late nights spent learning, refining, and testing doing the work that no one applauds. Quintesscents wasn’t built overnight; it was built through quiet consistency, faith, and a genuine desire to create something meaningful. I’m proud of the resilience I’ve developed in the process the mindset that keeps me moving forward even when progress feels invisible. That unseen dedication is what truly sustains both me and the business.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Wesley “Wes” Felix, and I’m the founder of Quintesscents, a fragrance brand based in Atlanta, Quintesscents was born from my passion for creating meaningful aromatic experiences where scent becomes more than fragrance, but a reflection of identity and atmosphere. Each product, from our hand-poured soy candles to our plug-in refills and car fresheners, is designed to bring calm, connection, and artistry into everyday spaces. What makes Quintesscents special is our commitment to blending luxury and intention every detail, from the vessel design to the refillable packaging, embodies care and consciousness. We’re currently focused on expanding our refill line and growing our community presence through local markets, wellness partnerships, and storytelling-driven content.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself was the one I had with my father. He came to the U.S. from Haiti with my mother in the 1980s. Growing up, I watched his confidence, his discipline, and his belief that how you carry yourself says everything about who you are. It showed me that presence, from the way you speak to even how you smell is a reflection of self-respect. That lesson became part of my DNA and ultimately the foundation of Quintesscents. The phrase I often say, “It’s not what’s on me, but what’s in me,” came from that early influence. It reminds me that true value starts within and that everything I create, whether a scent or a business, should come from a place of integrity, purpose, and pride.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self, “You’re doing better than you think.” There were times I pushed so hard to prove I belonged, to build something meaningful, that I forgot to pause and give myself grace. I’d remind that version of me that patience doesn’t mean standing still , it just means trusting that what’s meant for you will unfold in time. Every late night, every setback, every quiet moment of doubt was shaping the man and God known you’d one day become. I’d tell him that his purpose was never about fitting in, it was about becoming the example of presence, peace, and excellence he used to look for in others. You were never behind; you were just being refined.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what matters most to me is integrity, principles & showing up the same way in private as I do in public. I take pride in being a man of integrity, whether that’s in how I lead, how I create, or how I treat people. I believe your word and your energy are two things you should always protect. They’d also tell you I care deeply about presence about being intentional in how you move through the world and what you leave behind in a room.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was a man of integrity, that my word meant something. That I stood on my principles even when it wasn’t convenient or popular. I want to be remembered as someone who showed up for people, who didn’t just speak about loyalty or compassion but lived it in real time. Whether through my work, my brand, or my relationships, I want my story to be one of presence, that when people needed me most, I was there. That I built things, not just for success, but for meaning. And that even after I’m gone, something I created, taught, or inspired continues to make others feel seen, valued, and capable of more.
