Meet Sarah Wisted of Sarahwisted.com

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Wisted.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It’s funny. Anytime someone asks me how I got started in blogging, I don’t know exactly how to answer the question. The reality is, I’ve been interested in talking about clothing and other design aspects for years now and I think blogging was an easy transition for me.

If I had to pinpoint a moment where the idea of starting a blog turned into action, it would probably be the time where I was watching one of the runway shows during fashion week (I cannot remember which one) and I wanted so badly to discuss the color/style choices of that particular designer and I couldn’t think of one person in my friend group, at the time, who would be as interested in the conversation as I was. Not that I didn’t appreciate my friend’s interests, I just didn’t want to bore them with my ideas of styling an outfit or how one can re-create the same look. In other words, I felt a sort of void in my life that I had an immediate desire to fill. I figured if social media is a place to truly be social and connect with other like-minded women, why not give it a try.

So with that, I started my first blog – Styled By Sarah Nicole. Yes, this is not the same blog as I have today. It was back in 2014 or so when blogging wasn’t as mainstream as it is today. I felt awkward and uncomfortable. I didn’t know how to get quality pictures of me without paying, which I was not in the mindset to do. I threw content up that I did not think through. It was very haphazard and disorganized. My fear of people thinking it was “weird” ended up killing my passion and it ended after, maybe, 3 posts – one of my BIGGEST regrets. Can you imagine if I had pushed through?

A few years went by, the idea of having a blog was still hanging over my heard. I ended up getting a sort of dream job (just not my dream job), that is still my current job. I work from home, for a boss that is very hands-off/but very supportive, and I get to make my own hours to a certain extent. I told myself, I need to try again and now is the time.

I would say I got to where I am today 100% because of the amazing people I’ve met in the blogging community. To give a quick shout out to my girl – Allie, from Viva Lux Photography, was my very first photographer. I did pay her because getting started was super hard for me and her photos are so good – you literally just have to upload them. No tweaks needed.

… And seriously, to get started, you just have to start. Do whatever you have to in order to make it happen, even if that means paying (investing!).

Now, I shoot with a few of my other friends who also have blogs. We get together at least once a week to get content for each other. Without sounding too cheesy, it’s now one of my favorite things that I look forward to every week. I have a serious passion for creating and talking creativity and it’s so great to be surrounded by others who have the same passions. There’s so much to be said about the company you keep and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have met some of these people… and cannot wait to meet more in the future!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m sure most would agree that creativity never comes smooth. Some of the biggest struggles to getting to the point I am now have been finding someone to take my pictures, time to create content, growing an authentic following, and feeling tempted to have the latest outfits (which you DO NOT need to be successful!). While it’s been extremely frustrating at times, it also reminds me that anything worth having doesn’t come easy.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about sarahwisted.com – what should we know?
My blog, sarahwisted.com, is a personal blog focused on laid back, put together city style. All of the looks I come up with are very accessible and, I don’t believe, too “out there” for anyone else to copy and feel comfortable in. I am known for being a fan of neutrals, having almost no color in most of my photos. I love denim and graphic tees, with a recent obsession with hats. I’m sure my style will evolve along with my blogging journey (it already has!), but that’s the fun of it.

I am very excited to have had the opportunity to start working with a few boutiques and brands that I’ve been a fan of for a while. I’ve also been lucky enough to get few re-posts from well-known brands, such as Mother Denim and Topshop. I’m excited to see what’s to come next! If you’re a brand reading this – let’s chat. 🙂

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I already shouted out my early on photog – Allie (@VivaLuxPhotography), but there are definitely a few others that need a little recognition. My girls, Marah Rice (@Marahcar) and Chandler DeHart (@Candidlychan) have helped me turn my haphazard blog into something more esthetically pleasing and consistent.

They also have killer blogs, so definitely go follow them! A few others that have seriously helped along the way: Morgan Sandlin (@ATLGirlgang), Cora Pursley (@CoraPursley), and Harrison White (@Harrisonwwhite). And of course all of my family, but more specifically – my husband Taylor and my Sister In Law Tori Wisted (@ToriWisted).
