Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoë Schroeder.
Hi Zoë, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started volleyball when I was 10 years old and started club at 13. I began to edit when I was 12 and became obsessed with effects and altering visuals in a different way. I was so inspired by Marvel movies, specifically the movies including Wanda Vision and Dr. Strange- the effects, CGI and everything visually about these films caught my eye and made me want to do this. As I learned more about this field, I figured out that I wanted to do post production editing. Fast forward to senior year of highschool, during my last club season, I dislocated my knee six times and realized that I couldn’t follow my passion towards volleyball and instead had to choose a new path for my life. I never wanted to loose volleyball, so I picked up a camera for the first time and shot a volleyball game to create a reel and take some photos. Ever since then I have continued this passion of mine and now have my own business that has been going on for almost 3 years as well as partnering with my club I played for, M2 Volleyball, who I am so grateful for in believing me and allowing me to capture their moments I once went through with them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I had tunnel vision on becoming a pro volleyball player after college and nothing else really, besides coaching. I was depressed due to my knee injury, especially during my surgery I had in the summer after I graduated.
After I got an idea of what I wanted and started to film and put myself out there, it became easier especially having connections through volleyball made it even smoother.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Even though I have a business, I consider myself an independent creative and entrepreneur. I specialize in film and post production editing. People would say I’m known in the volleyball world and have a great eye in capturing what’s happening on the court and where to aim to get the best shot. I’m most proud of my growth and understanding camera knowledge and the art of creating something from nothing.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Accomplishing goals unconsciously throughout life makes me extremely proud of myself. I love making young girls feel good about themselves and how they see themselves on camera in a reel or photos! I got my photos taken a few times, but they rarely satisfied me due to quality and what they captured, so this challenged me to create and give girls what I wanted while I played.
