Meet Cody Malone of PT Authority

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Malone.

Hi Cody, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a physical therapist for over 13 years with almost 11 of those in the outpatient orthopedic setting with the same company. I’ve always loved what I do. Helping people move better, get stronger, and get back to doing what they love is incredibly rewarding.
But after years in the traditional clinic setting, I started to feel stuck. Insurance rules and company policies began to control how I treated my patients. To make a decent living, I had to pack my schedule full, which meant shorter visits and less personal attention. The quality of care started to slip, and honestly, I was burning out. It got to the point where I wondered if I even wanted to stay in the profession I once loved and that was a tough realization.
Instead of walking away, I decided to find a better way. I spent about three years researching how to open my own practice where I could focus entirely on the patient, not the paperwork. That’s when PT Authority was born.
I started small as a mobile practice, driving to people’s homes and gyms to help them get back on track. It hasn’t been easy trying to juggle growing a side hustle while still trying to provide for my wife and 4 kids but the freedom to treat clients how I want to treat them and how they deserve has been extremely rewarding.
Now, PT Authority has become something I’m truly proud of. It’s built on trust, results, and real one-on-one care. My goal moving forward is to open a standalone location where clients can find everything they need to bridge the gap between rehab and performance goals. Clients will be able to receive rehab, strength, wellness, and performance all in one place.
This journey reminded me why I became a physical therapist in the first place: to help people move better, live better, and feel better without all the red tape.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No! Initially trying to meet gym owners and trainers was overwhelming. Slowly I have been introduced to more people and the network has grown. The other struggle was trying to gain trust from people who did not know me. I know how capable I am but it requires trust. It requires many hours of dropping in for a workout or trying to set up workshops at various gyms to add value to the gym and their clients while trying to promote myself. It also shows potential clients and referral sources that I am living what I preach for health and wellness. Also, learning how to “sell” physical therapy is not easy. Most people don’t WANT to go to PT, but no one WANTS to struggle with pain either so they recognize the value and hard work necessary to make changes.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about PT Authority?
PT Authority is a mobile and performance-based physical therapy practice that focuses on providing truly personalized care — without the restrictions of insurance companies.
I started PT Authority because I saw how much traditional physical therapy was being limited by insurance rules, short appointments, and high patient volume. I wanted to change that. At PT Authority, every session is one-on-one and fully customized to the individual — no rushed visits, no hand-offs to aides, and no cookie-cutter programs.
We specialize in helping active adults, athletes, weight lifters, power lifters, CrossFitters and anyone recovering from injury get back to doing what they love — and perform even better than before. Whether it’s shoulder pain, back issues, post-surgical rehab, or performance training, I meet clients where they are and they have access to me between each visit.
What really makes PT Authority different is the combination of clinical expertise, personalized attention, and freedom from insurance limitations. Patients get the time and quality care they deserve, with programs designed around their goals — not paperwork.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that PT Authority represents empowerment — giving people authority over their own health, movement, and performance. The name isn’t just about physical therapy; it’s about helping clients take back control and gain confidence and resilience in their bodies.
Ultimately, I want readers to know that PT Authority is about more than just recovery — it’s about helping people move better, live better, and perform at their best, on their own terms.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Resilience. Starting and growing any business from scratch is a grind. Sometimes you burn the candle at both ends and it gets a little weary, especially with extra activities requiring your attention in the personal life. Being resilient has helped me overcome feelings of depression, disappointment, frustration, uncertainty and sometimes anger. I’m reminded to be patient and to learn from all my experiences whether they are good or bad.
