Exploring Life & Business with Jason Jewell of The Do Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Jewell.

Hi Jason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Amelia and Jason have been life and business partners for over 20 years. Jason is a veteran hair stylist with more than 27 years behind the chair, managing and now owning salons. He has had the good fortune to educate for several major global beauty brands, work in editorial, commercial and film work, and developing a styling and grooming product line. Amelia was formerly a costume designer for theater and really found her knack for sales and being the heartbeat of operations management. Together, they decided that wanted to move back to Atlanta in 2021 entering into a partnership with a salon in the north ATL suburbs. Earlier this year they decided to move on from that when the opportunity arrived to purchase the original Emily J Salon location at Emory Point.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where we are today with The Do has been peppered with some significant bumps for sure. Amelia and I dreamed for years of opening our own salon. Deciding to move back to the ATL in 2021, we were presented with a chance to partner with a local salon in the northern Atlanta suburbs. We dove in, and four years later we found ourselves at a crossroads – to stay or to go. That partnership taught us quite a lot in what we ultimately didn’t want in a business partner, so we went. At the same time, another opportunity came up to purchase the original Emily J Salon location. We had been speaking with the owners off and on for a few years and this time everything aligned. We dove in again, and it has been amazing (the staff!!), the clientele and the location! Dealing with permitting and licensing has not been a picnic, but the support from everyone in this new venture has been overwhelmingly positive and uplifting!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In the acquisition of the original Emily J Salon location, the name was not part of the assets and we knew from the jump that a rebrand was in order. Amelia came up with the perfect new name, The Do. We chose the name, “The Do” because it is not only shorthand for a hairdo, but also because it can signify and event or happening.

The Do is not only a hair salon. With it’s generous size, we want to make it also an event space and to brand it as a top destination for all things education in the hairdressing world. The things that set us apart from other hair salons in our area is that we want to uplift the hairdressing community of the greater ATL by offering regular learning and networking events for hairdressers, as well as offering a space that can be utilized by our community to celebrate life events – think bar- and bat-mitzvahs, birthdays, graduations, etc. Our motto is, “A place for hair and a space for life”.

The Do is an Aveda salon. All the products we use are clean, good for the environment and great for your hair and well-being. We focus and specialize in lived-in, low maintenance hair color, textured (wavy, curly, coily) hair, grey blending and ginger/reds. We are blessed to have a staff composed of seasoned master stylists who listen, empathize and can get to heart of what your hair needs, all in a tranquil and serene environment.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to us at The Do is to meet people where they are in their journey. We chose to have gender neutral pricing for haircuts as not everyone who has long hair identifies in the same way. Rather we base pricing in part on the consumption of time it takes to get the desired results. Not all journeys are the same. We want to make a positive impact on our community by offer services and solutions for hair that meet most budgets. It also matters to us to use the cleanest product lines that can be had and the ones we use are not only that – they are also the most effective that we can find!
