Today we’d like to introduce you to L. Sheree Adams.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been a nurse for 28 years. I was in administration after receiving my first master’s degree in nursing. I decided to pivot from leadership and management after my own mental health began to affect my family and watching the toll that dementia took on my my family after my grandfather was diagnosed, I took on a special interest in behavioral health. So, I decided to step down from my position, so that I could have more flexibility and less responsibility and I pursued my master’s in nursing and became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I started my private practice in 2023 because I wanted to take my time with patients in need and provide them with the education that yields long-lasting results opposed to just prescribing medication.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not. As a business owner, I realize that [now] what thjey mean when they say, “If you build it, they will come.” However, you have to figuratively and literally pay for the building, the utilities, the marketing, the administrative accoutrements, the support the licensing and MORE! All while staying up to date on trends and best practices in psychiatry especially if you have specialties.
As you know, we’re big fans of eunoia Wellness Collective. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
eunoia (lower case on purpose) stands for “a well mind and beautiful thinking” The wellness collective aspect of the name was intentional in that I don’t paternalize care and give orders. I invite patients to participate in their treatment via education and choices that help them stay accountable and yield long lasting results. My practice focuses on holistic/functional psychiatry which involves nootropics (non-prescription medications), adaptogens, supplements, clinical nutrition, gut health and more – IN ADDITION to traditional methods and prescription medications that which more people may be accustomed. This along with my humor and affinity for helping those who are neurodivergent, BIPOC and/or LGBTQ.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I like to encourage my patients to follow me on social media as well as subscribe to my practice’s monthly newsletter. No spam. Just gems!
