Check Out Brit K.S.’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brit K.S..

Brit, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Laguna Beach, California, and discovered my love for storytelling early on. I always dreamed of becoming a writer, which led me to join my school paper and later earn a journalism degree from CU Boulder. After college, I explored magazine and blog journalism, mainly covering fitness—a field I was already immersed in while teaching classes to support myself through school.

When the pandemic hit, I realized I needed a change. I stepped away from fitness and journalism and decided to pursue creative writing full‑time. That decision led to my first novel, Raise Hell, published in 2024. Since then, I’ve written three books and independently published two of them. Choosing the indie route allowed me to maintain complete creative control and learn the industry firsthand.

I have zero regrets about my path and hope to inspire aspiring authors curious about independent publishing, especially those seeking creative freedom but unsure where to start.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is anything worthwhile ever easy? Writing certainly isn’t. It’s my passion and what I want to do for the rest of my life, but there are days when the tears flow more easily than the ideas. It’s a tough profession for anyone—even New York Times bestselling authors. Reviews are meant for readers, but sometimes we authors stumble across ones that are less than kind. Thankfully, there are also those that remind us why all the hard work is worth it. It is those moments that make being a storyteller so rewarding.

As an indie author (someone who is self‑published), I manage every part of my career. I set my own publishing schedule, write my books, hire my editors and cover artists, and run all my social media platforms. It’s a lot to juggle, but after several years, I’m finding my rhythm. Readers are discovering my work, connecting with me, and sharing how much my stories mean to them, and that makes every challenge worth it!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a paranormal fantasy romance author who writes captivating stories for adults who love romance, politically charged worlds, and supernatural settings. I currently have two books published, with a third on the way. “Last Breath” releases on March 19, 2026, and serves as the final installment in my debut series, “The Eleventh Hour.” The series follows two unlikely allies who uncover a centuries‑old secret with the potential to unravel peace—all while trying not to fall in love. It’s a fast‑paced, emotionally charged story that I’m so proud of!

I’ve worked hard to get my books into readers’ hands, both online and in several bookstores, including local independent shops and even a few stores overseas. As an independently published author and small business owner, I manage every aspect of my career: I set my own writing and publishing schedule, organize events, and run my social media platforms. When I’m not writing, you can usually find me working at a local bookstore, surrounded by the stories that inspire me.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of the book community and love connecting with like‑minded authors and passionate readers who, like me, can’t stop gushing about fictional characters.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I take risks all the time as a creator and as a business owner. From choosing which stories to tell, when to publish, what to share on social media, and which events to attend, every decision is a gamble. But that’s part of the fun, because without taking risks, there are no rewards!
