Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharveal Johnson.
Hi Sharveal , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Sharveal Johnson: A Journey of Faith, Music, and Self-Determination
I am Sharveal Johnson, an independent music executive, artist, and songwriter—the face and founder of my own label. Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, my journey has been one of faith, resilience, and unyielding dedication to my craft.
Growing up in the church, I sang in the children’s choir at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. I found joy in sitting next to the band, and it was in those formative years that I learned to find comfort in performing, taking on lead roles that would lay the foundation for my future as an artist.
At 15, my family relocated to Miami, Florida, where I attended Miami Beach Senior High School. A skilled basketball player, I initially focused on sports, but by my junior year, I was encouraged to participate in the school’s talent show. My performance was met with overwhelming praise, and soon after, I was introduced to an A&R representative from Atlantic Records, thanks to my parents.
In 2006, at the dawn of Myspace’s rise, I released two dance singles—“Bout It Booty Bangle Berry” and “Lean”—which my mother, Dinina Johnson, sold and promoted independently on South Beach. The tracks sold over 10,000 copies, a testament to my early hustle. Yet, despite the attention and an early record deal offer, my mother wisely encouraged me to focus on education, advising me to “learn the business and become your own boss.”
She presented me with a choice: basketball or music. I chose music, though I wasn’t initially pleased with her decision to turn down the deal. In defiance, I left Miami and returned to Chicago, where I lived with my great-grandmother, Mary Robinson. I finished my senior year at Sullivan House, where I graduated with my music group, Y2 Phresh, gaining local recognition and a buzz in Chicago’s club scene.
After graduation, I returned to Miami, releasing three more singles that showcased my dance skills and vocal ability. It wasn’t long before major executives and managers began to take notice. My first pop single, “Dance All Night”, produced by a Sony Records producer, was a pivotal moment in my career. Thanks to the support of influential figures like Michael Corleone Blanco, I was soon introduced to my new manager, Life, who relocated me to Hollywood, California.
In Hollywood, I opened for artists like E-40 and connected with a network of industry professionals, including Rihanna, YG, and Mally Mall, while working at Kings Studio—an establishment owned by my manager. There, I deepened my understanding of the business and remained grounded in faith, always remembering the guidance of my mentor, Cairos, who took me to meetings and allowed me to learn the intricacies of the industry as a quiet student.
I often refer to Hollywood as my “college,” a place where I honed my skills, made valuable connections, and built a reputation. Along the way, I appeared in commercials and music videos, all while managing the recording studio. However, life’s path led me to unexpected challenges. After the passing of my great-grandmother, I found myself in Las Vegas, struggling with no money and no clear direction. Yet, with faith and prayer, I found strength to push forward.
Starting with only $100 to my name, I found work at the Wynn Hotel, where I began performing for tourists on the Las Vegas Strip, selling CDs and promoting my music. My perseverance paid off, leading to major performances at venues like the Cosmopolitan, MGM, and Hard Rock Hotel. Eventually, my talent caught the attention of Sony Records, and I was offered a $250,000 deal. However, my family and I, particularly my cousin Speedy, advised me to walk away from the deal, reminding me to know my worth and remain independent.
I went on to win Best Artist in Las Vegas for two consecutive years and secured a residency at Billion Studios with my live band, Sharveal & The R&B Gang. Yet, like so many, the pandemic caused the suspension of my residency, pushing me into the realm of music marketing. I joined EDST, where I helped clients—entrepreneurs, artists, and actresses—build their online presence. During this time, I also completed two albums: Sharveal, my debut R&B album produced by Jay Uncut, and IDGAF, produced by Wakaba, a talented producer from Kenya.
In 2023, I was contacted by my uncle, Chuck Cymone, who informed me that a major label was seeking new talent. With my extensive network and passion for elevating others, I helped secure a new artist’s deal—though the label failed to recognize my role as the A&R behind the discovery. This led me to a pivotal decision: God placed it on my heart to move to Atlanta, Georgia, where I founded Peace N Blessings Records.
I see Peace N Blessings as the “new Motown”—a label dedicated to nurturing talented musicians who love and represent God with integrity, elegance, and excellence. Currently based in Sandy Springs, Georgia, I am proud to call myself a leader in an industry that often lacks spiritual direction and ethical grounding. I was recently baptized in May, reaffirming my commitment to the mission God has set before me: to remind the world that prayer changes everything and that new beginnings are possible through faith.
This is my story. And my message to the world is simple: Prayer Changes.
