Hi Essence , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Powerhouse actress, producer, & kingdom influencer, Essence the Superstar, is redefining what it means to be a superstar—empowering creative women to overcome unfulfillment & align with God’s purpose. Through her work, she teaches kingdom principles & inspires others to shine brightly through love & faith.

Born in Jackson, MS, Essence’s journey has taken her from theatre and drama studies at Spelman College to UCLA, where she earned a degree in Acting for Film & Television. After surviving a near-fatal accident that redirected her path to Hollywood, she launched The Chosen Entertainment & Media in 2014, producing kingdom-focused content and partnering with major studios. Today, as CEO of The Chosen Studios, Jackson’s first film studio, she is creating opportunities for underserved creatives while pioneering faith-driven media.

A believer, wife, mom, and boss—Essence embodies the truth that being a superstar isn’t about Hollywood fame, but about faithfully living your calling and leading others to righteousness (Daniel 12:3).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. It’s been anything but smooth. Prayer—and my relationship with God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit—is truly the only reason I’ve made it this far. There have been many tough moments, but each time I lean into the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, I come out better than I went in.

One of my biggest lessons to date has been the importance of obedience. I once poured everything into a passion project called Love Never Fails that eventually went belly up—leaving me over $250,000 in debt—all because I ignored the Spirit’s prompting and agreed to terms that didn’t truly serve the vision. For years, I pointed the finger at others who played a part, but once I took accountability for my own decisions, I was finally able to embrace the growth and fruit that come through obedience.

What’s interesting is that Love Never Fails was always my personal story—it came from my heart—but through its rise and fall, God taught me the true meaning of what I was already trying to give to the world. I learned that real love is obedience, just as 1 John 3:16 and John 14:15 remind us. In every setback, God has shown me that love and obedience go hand in hand—and that His love truly never fails.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m Essence the Superstar—a faith-driven wife, mom, and creative entrepreneur using my gifts in acting, producing, and public speaking to inspire and empower creatives to step into their kingdom purpose. Whether through film, television, public speaking, or workforce development, I focus on guiding others to righteousness through the mountains of entertainment and media.

I’m known for my role as co-host of The Superstar Blueprint, a podcast redefining what it means to be a “Superstar” according to Daniel 12:3. My work is rooted in the belief that our God-given talents are meant to impact the world, and I love helping others see and maximize their potential while staying aligned with Christ.

What I’m most proud of is The Chosen Studios, a company I co-founded with my husband to create spaces and opportunities for creatives to tell their stories on their own terms. What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to faith and intentionality in everything I do. I don’t just aim to entertain; I aim to equip, uplift, and leave a legacy that inspires others to walk boldly in their calling.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is seeing God’s will unfold in my life and in the lives of others. I love helping creatives step into their calling, tell their stories authentically, and realize their full potential. Moments that combine faith, family, and creativity—whether producing a project, mentoring someone, or sharing a message from the gospel—fill me with joy.

I also find happiness in the little, intentional moments: being fully present with my family, celebrating milestones, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impact. Ultimately, my greatest joy comes from walking in alignment with God’s will, knowing that the work I’m doing inspires and empowers others to live boldly in their purpose.
