Check Out Carlos Figueroa’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Figueroa.

Hi Carlos, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a Hispanic journalist with over 25 years of experience. I was born in Venezuela, where I studied and started my career at the national news channel Globovisión. I began as a reporter and later became the evening news anchor.

My first big move came when I relocated to Colombia, forced by the political and social situation back home. That’s where I picked up my career again, becoming the main anchor and interviewer for analysis and opinion shows on the international news network NTN24.

Then, three years ago — in November 2022 — I arrived in Atlanta to join the Telemundo team here. Since then, I’ve been anchoring the news and serving the Latino community across Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. It’s been an amazing journey, filled with meaningful stories, big coverage moments, and, thankfully, various nominations and Emmy Awards in 2024 and 2025.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the first challenges we Hispanics face when we arrive in the United States is the language. Sometimes reaching the level of fluency needed to fully express ideas and move forward with projects can be tough. But for me, no obstacle is ever high enough to make me give up.

In fact, many people have helped me realize that as long as I have my ideas clear, I can get my message across — even with my strong accent (which is pretty heavy, by the way! Haha).

I feel very happy because people in Atlanta have welcomed me with open arms. They’ve helped me grow, taught me a lot, and many of them have become true friends.

Being an immigrant isn’t easy — there are moments when you feel out of place, when you miss your family deeply — but having a support system makes all the difference. It gives you strength to keep going and to build a new home.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a news anchor, but I like to think of my work as going beyond just presenting the headlines. I’m known for giving context to the news — helping our Hispanic community understand not only what’s happening, but why it matters. My fresh and approachable style has really resonated with audiences who follow Telemundo’s news across the states we serve.

Outside the studio, I love being out in the community. I’ve had the privilege of serving as a master of ceremonies and host at major Latino festivals and events in several cities, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month, which just wrapped up recently. Those moments, connecting face-to-face with the people we serve, are truly rewarding.

Winning multiple Emmy Awards, including Best News Anchor in the Southeast Chapter, has been one of the greatest honors of my career. Competing alongside such experienced journalists across the U.S. and receiving that recognition — just a couple of years after arriving in this country — is something I’m very proud of.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about this city is the weather. I really enjoy it, although I have to admit that the intense cold sometimes makes me a little uncomfortable. But overall, I truly enjoy everything the city has to offer.

I don’t actually live right in Atlanta — I work here — but I love spending time downtown, walking around, visiting iconic spots, and discovering new and interesting places. One of the things that excited me the most when I got the position at Telemundo Atlanta was that I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Braves. Truist Park is my favorite place — even more than my own home! It feels like a temple to me. Being from the Caribbean, and with so many Venezuelan players having been part of this team and others in the MLB, it feels very special.

I live in East Cobb, and I love how peaceful it is there. We have excellent schools for my daughters, and we really enjoy the natural surroundings — there are so many parks and trails for exercising, relaxing, and spending time outdoors.

Metro Atlanta is truly a great place to live.
