Conversations with Camryn (Cam) Pless

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camryn (Cam) Pless.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story, oh my goodness. I grew up in a very small town called Elberton, Georgia. I was a dancer for many years and had a very close dance family full of women I looked up to immensely. I’m still very close to them today! Creativity has always been an important part of who I am. My sister has always been my greatest inspiration, she is one of the most talented and artistic people I know. My mom, on the other hand, could make absolutely anything out of nothing! I am certain my sister and I inherited this from her.

I picked up my first camera in 2017, when I was a junior in high school. What started as a fun activity to do with friends, soon became a love and outlet I had never experienced before. Anything from dance photography to editorial style photos, I was diving in head first to all of it. I soon left my hometown to attend school in Gainesville Ga where I quickly felt at home. The city still holds a special part of my heart. I took a break from photography for a while, trying my best to make it through covid, school, and the pressure of being the first person in my family to attend college.

In December of 2023 I graduated from Brenau University, one of the hardest, most rewarding things I have ever done. Photography, of course was my outlet through this time. It wasn’t until I graduated and started a new chapter of my life that I pushed myself to pursue photography full time. As 2025 is coming to an end, I am amazed at how much you grow when you simply put your head down and put your all into something.

My story has come full circle as I’ve stepped through a new door that could lead me to pursue dance photography full time. I’m currently working with several dance studios in the Northeast Georgia area and, of course, always return to my home studio to photograph their dancers, the place where I first discovered what true passion feels like.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am 24 and although I am young, I feel life has already swept me off my feet a couple of time. Yes, I have experienced obstacles but I keep good company and I believe if you have strong women around you, you are simply indestructible.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For a very long time I was convinced there was no way to be a full time photographer without just focusing on photographing weddings, I feel this is a huge topic in the photography community. It was not until I took a break from photographing weddings that a new door opened for me. I don’t limit myself to one genre, I take on projects that I enjoy shooting. Anything that gives me creative freedom and I am able to really show who I am through the photograph. I bring my love for editorial & fashion photography into everything I shoot.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Love.

I love what I do. I love the people I am photographing. I love everything about the world of photography and that love carries me through every session I book, every meeting I attend, and every client I meet.
