Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Choates.
Hi Brenda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the age of 19, in January of 2006 I decided to enroll in Advanced Career Training for their dental assisting program. School was going great. In February of 2006 I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter Makayla. In spite of my pregnancy, I continued on with school. I finished my program, had my daughter, and then I landed my first dental assisting job. I worked as a dental assistant for 4 years, but I knew I was destined for more. I was presented with the opportunity to become a dental assistant instructor, and I accepted. I started instructing on October 17, 2011. This is a date that I’ll never forget, because this was the start of something awesome for me. I loved teaching my students dentistry. This was my calling. I was teaching for around 9 years before I decided that I had reached my peak working for other companies, and I wanted my own dental assisting school. I went back to school to further my career in dentistry, and became a dental hygienist. I never lost sight of my dreams to own my own school. I did my research for years . I wrote my curriculum and started purchasing equipment because I knew my dreams were going to come to life. I hired a web site developer to create my website and I looked for a building. I found my building, and I’m happy to say that I’ll have my own dental assisting school opening December of 2025.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success and having your own isn’t smooth. I believe that anything worth having isn’t easy, but hard work pays off. When I first had the thought of my own dental assisting school, it seemed out of reach. Financially I had no idea of how or where to start. I learned that making smart financial decisions and saving is essential to having your own. Write things down and make it plain. I’m a woman of faith who believes in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us this in Habakkuk 2:2. You also have to believe in your mind that you can achieve whatever it is that you desire. If you can believe and see it, then it’s yours.
We’ve been impressed with Elite Dental Academy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a 10 week dental assistant hybrid course. Lectures will be conveniently online and there will also be hands on training. I am known for making sure that my students comprehend the information that’s being taught. I’m set apart from others because no one has created a dental assistant school like myself. I’m passionate about teaching up coming dental assistants the knowledge that they need to succeed. I proud of the fact that something that I’ve dreamed about for years, has come true. I want readers to know that anything that you set your mind to achieve, it’s yours. Nothing is out of reach or unattainable. I want my readers to know that the dental assistant program that I’ve developed and will be teaching is my passion. I put great thought and detail into every lecture, lab, and course that I’ve developed.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My business is just starting. I know that social media is a great means to network. I’ll be attending career days at high schools, Purchasing billboards and radio advertisement.
