Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlin Williams.
Hi Marlin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
A genuine ability to positively influence people and change the course of negative communication influences how Marlin Williams structures his daily life. “There is too much negativity in the world,” says Williams. “Building up one another’s self-esteem promotes healthy work places and environments and increases productivity -not only in business but also in families.”
Whether he is with a group of students, athletes, or in the business world, encouraging kindness and happiness never stray from his thoughts and words. Williams uses a background in communications, customer service training and certification, and internationally known communications classes to help others lead a happier, more productive life. His entertaining ability to teach to all learning styles allows for understanding in large arenas or intimate settings. Popular training options include but are not limited to: customer service, employee relations, corporate communications, public relations, encouragement, conflict resolution, character, interpersonal communication, leadership, team motivation and team building, optimism, perspectives, nonverbal communication, and team building.
Williams graduated from Harding University in 1993, with a B.A. in Mass Communications. He received a scholarship to perform live as a news anchor and sports director/sports anchor for the Harding nightly news. That experience proved valuable upon graduation for he remained successfully in the news industry for almost two decades.
Williams began his broadcast career in Jackson, Tennessee, where his work was featured on ESPN. In 1996, he moved to Augusta, Georgia, covering the Olympic games, Masters golf tournaments, Super Bowls, and World Series. He gained recognition multiple times from the Georgia Associated press while in Augusta. Moving to Tupelo, Mississippi, in 2003, saw multiple recognitions from the Mississippi Associated Press. He received an Emmy nomination for producing, writing, and co-hosting First Down on Fox.
In 2009, Williams left broadcast news for the corporate world working as a Communications Manager then Chief Operating Officer for an electric power cooperative where his communication expertise allowed him to work alongside local, state, and national elected officials regarding Economic Development and Government Relations. Currently he serves as the Manager of Member Services for North East Mississippi Electric Power Association and owns MLT Communication, LLC-a corporate training/coaching company. He and his wife Tracy reside in Batesville, Mississippi, with their twin daughters, Millie and Sophie.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Mostly my journey has been smooth. I loved my college years job serving as a tour guide at Graceland (Elvis’ home) in
Memphis, TN.
My television career was such a blessing. My 7.5 years in Georgia was incredible. I made lifelong friends and was blessed to receive local, state, and regional recognition.
I enjoyed my 16 years in corporate communications, government relations, and economic development.
My greatest career move was starting y own company and the ability I now have to help people be better. We travel all across the country helping teams, C-Suite, and all levels of customer service, etc.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We LOVE helping employees, supervisors, and bosses reach their full potential. Although it helps the bottom line successes it’s so great when you reach professionals on a level where there is trust, transparency, and empathy. I humbly believe we do that very well.

Stress?! What Stress?!
Managing Stress and Reactions at Work by Creating an Emotionally Intelligent Environment
(Four-hour class)
Employees who experience stress in the workplace translate that stress to each other and customers. Knowing how to manage one’s reactions and maturely communicate emotions creates a successful environment in which employees thrive. Participants in this class will experience informative training and life-like scenarios that will ultimately aid them in understanding differences, working together despite differences, raise their self-awareness, and will push toward creating a “We Are One” environment.
Let’s Do This!
(This is a four-hour class created to follow Stress?! What Stress?!)
Organizations tend to have so many different personality types and learning styles all under one roof that we are challenged to keep communication effective. Changes and ever-evolving means of communication can create discomfort or misunderstandings for some employees and leaders. From face to face verbal communication to texts, emails, or posts on a social media sight, our intentions aren’t always received as intended. Let’s Do This! addresses these challenges, especially as they relate to emotions and conflicts, and presents tools to overcome what we face regularly. Participants in this class will experience real-life practice scenarios throughout the training to help them become better communicators and listeners in order to overcome these types of challenges.
Good, Better, Best
(This is an eight-hour class that utilizes much of Stress?! What Stress?! and Let’s Do This.)
A happy and content employee works more effectively and efficiently than one who is stressed, uncertain, or troubled. Knowing your employees, having a good relationship with them, and being able to communicate with them productively will impact your overall organization positively in so many ways. Good, Better, Best will enable your leadership team to grow your organization with consideration and confidence while reducing conflict and stresses related to a normal workday. It will enable your employees to better understand themselves and to be able to recognize similarities in others in order to be able to better communicate.
KNOW! Making the YES Sale!
(4-hour class)
When your business relies on the success of your sales team, every effort must be made to strengthen the team and the team’s effectiveness. Being organized and efficient is a start, but what does it really take to get a YES out of your customers? Increasing each team member’s emotional intelligence, coaching them to be self-motivated, seasoning their communication skills, and giving them rewarding sales tips to put into practice will benefit the whole company. Participants will experience informative training and life-like scenarios that will ultimately aid them in understanding and furthering their goals as a member of your sales team.
A Better Me for a Better We
(4-hour class)
Personal connections and communication skills seem logical and easy… but are they? Neither appear in everyone’s playbook, but they should both be at the top of the list. When facing so many different employees, change, individual needs not to mention the needs of customers, those in leadership positions need as many tools and tricks in their playbook as possible. A Better Me for a Better We provides those plays that might be missing.
Originally developed to inspire and improve cohesion among sports teams, A Better Me for a Better We translates seamlessly to organizations and businesses growing their sense of “team.”
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Live your passion. I have always known the real bottom line rests with the employees satisfaction. I have been a mentor to many but it’s my role as a mentee that I wish I had started earlier. There are so many success stories and most of those were accomplished with an open mind and more importantly, open ears.
