Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon “Zack” Zackary.
Hi Brandon “Zack”, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a third generation mechanic. My father is still a mechanic. One of my grandfathers was a diesel mechanic. Another was a business man. I also have an uncle who’s a recently retired mechanic. Also, another uncle was an entrepreneur in logistics and real estate. He has & continues to be a major influence in my life, from a business aspect and personally. So I guess it’s in the DNA!
I’ve worked with my father and uncle on vehicles as a teenager, here and there. In 2008, my immediate family was growing and I wanted to ensure that I would be available for my family as well as continue to be a provider. I was motivated to become an entrepreneur with the skillset that I have and to also have a balance for family life and business.
I’m also setting the standard for my son to take over the business or establish his own path to success.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! (Laughs) But it has been quite the learning and growing experience! Building and operating a business from the ground up comes with trial, error, overwhelming jobs, and fluctuating income. Being in this industry, where some mechanics aren’t always genuine, I had to go above and beyond to show & prove that I’m set apart from the rest.
I can’t take all the credit and say that I pulled myself up by the bootstraps alone. Between sound advice from the men in my family (previously mentioned), other family members donating tools to start with, and my wife being supportive as an admin and overall… my village helped to navigate bumps in the road.
Another struggle was when I relocated with my family from Gwinnett County to Central GA and I had to start over with building a customer base.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I got the idea for the name “Sons of Thunder” from the bible with the sons of Zebedee, John and James. John was my maternal grandfather (the businessman). James was my paternal grandfather (the diesel mechanic). It was a way of paying homage to the men that set the foundation to shape me into the man that I am today.
When I decided to start this business, I went with the idea of being mobile to reduce the cost to the customer, not having to tow their car and to also provide the convenience of coming to the customer as well.
The services that I offer are diagnostics & inspections, brake services, engine maintenance & repairs, cooling system services, transmission services, steering & suspension services, small engine & lawn equipment services, and a few additional services such as light to moderate modifications as well as audio installation.
What sets me apart is that I thrive off of integrity. My upbringing won’t allow me to operate any other way. Seeing as though majority of my customer base are women and senior citizens, I put myself in the shoes of the women and elderly that I personally know or am related to. I wouldn’t want someone trying to get over on my loved ones. So I operate with that mind frame.
My 4.8 Google review ratings supports how I conduct business.
I also volunteer time to the community by going to local public schools and homeschool co-ops for career days and teaching basic preventive maintenance classes.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
First and foremost, following God… humility, honesty, knowledge from my elders, & empathy.
