Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Williams.
Hi Destiny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Destiny “DeeDessy” Williams, and I’m an artist, actress, model, designer, and founder of the Homegrown Collective — a movement built around loving your true, authentic self. Everything I create comes from real life, real experiences, and a genuine passion for helping others embrace who they are, without filters or edits.
I was born in New Orleans and moved to Atlanta to chase my dreams. That move changed my life — I started acting in short films, appearing in music videos, and building my name through hard work and creativity. I’ve been featured in videos with Lil Baby, Mulatto, DaBaby, T-Pain, ATL Jacob, Sonny Digital, and bangladash and my journey has taken me from viral skits on Instagram and TikTok to interviews with legends like Jadakiss and Uncle Murda.
Before all that, I went to Tri-Cities Magnet Program for Film & Digital Media, where I discovered my gift for storytelling. Acting opened the door but what really pushed me was seeing how many people — especially women — struggled with insecurities the same way I once did. I didn’t want to be part of an industry that decided who was “beautiful” or “enough.” I wanted to create something that celebrated every woman exactly as she is. That’s how Homegrown was born.
Now, I’m proud to bring that message to life through the Homegrown Fashion Show, happening November 14, 2025, at Palm Beach ATL. It’s the first fashion show dedicated to natural bodies, featuring women who represent real beauty, confidence, and culture. It’s not just a show — it’s a statement.
I’ve always believed that beauty doesn’t need to be altered; it already lives in our natural forms. Homegrown is my love letter to confidence, culture, and community — and I’m just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it hasn’t been smooth at all. My journey has been full of lessons, pain, and growth. Coming up in this industry as a woman — especially one who believes in keeping her body natural — hasn’t always been easy. I’ve faced body discrimination, people trying to box me in or make me feel like I had to change myself to be considered beautiful or marketable. I’ve also dealt with men in positions of power trying to exploit me for opportunities, acting like I had to “do something” in return just to get a fair chance. That was one of the hardest parts — learning how to stand firm in my boundaries and know that my talent, my work, and my energy are enough.
On top of that, I didn’t come from a perfect background. My upbringing was rough, and a lot of times I had to figure things out on my own. I didn’t have everything handed to me — I had to stay focused, even when my environment was trying to pull me in every direction. But those struggles shaped me. They gave me the strength and confidence to be the woman I am now.
Everything I went through taught me to move with purpose. That’s why I built Homegrown — because I never want another woman to feel like she has to change or compromise herself to be seen. I’m proof that you can come from anything, face anything, and still rise by staying true to who you are.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear a lot of hats — I’m an artist, actress, designer, and entrepreneur — but everything I do connects back to one message: authenticity. Through my brand, Homegrown Collective, I specialize in creating spaces that remind people they don’t have to change who they are to be seen, loved, or successful. Whether it’s through music, fashion, or my Homegrown Meals cooking show, I want my work to reflect real life, real bodies, and real stories.
I’m probably best known for my natural-body movement and the creative energy I bring into everything I do — from starring in music videos with Lil Baby, Glorilla, and Money bag yo , to hosting the upcoming Homegrown Fashion Show in Atlanta. That show means a lot to me because it’s the first event I’ve built from the ground up that truly represents what I stand for: confidence, culture, and community.
What sets me apart is my authenticity and fearlessness. I don’t follow trends; I create from my truth. I’ve seen how fake this industry can be, and I made a decision early on that I would rather be real than perfect. I’m proud that my audience connects with that — they see that I’m not trying to be anyone else.
Every project I touch — whether it’s a song, a show, or a design — carries the same message: be proud of where you come from and who you are. That’s what “Homegrown” is all about. It’s not just a brand. It’s a movement.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is simple — build real relationships, not forced ones. The best connections I’ve made came from being genuine and showing love without expecting anything back. When your energy is real, the right people want to work with you.
Finding a mentor isn’t about chasing big names; it’s about finding people who move with purpose and consistency. I’ve learned the most just by watching how people handle success, failure, and pressure.
Networking for me has always been about authenticity and value — I show support, speak up about my vision, and let my work speak for itself. You don’t have to beg for a seat at someone else’s table; build your own and invite others to sit with you.
