We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jeremy Smith. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
If anyone knows me, they know the first 90 minutes of my day are sacred. Do not call, text, or even think about emailing me during this time. I’m not a morning person—unless you count my shower, which is basically the only thing that wakes me up. I don’t drink coffee (shockingly, I know), so that cold water is my life support. Once I’m semi-conscious, I dive straight into my inbox. I skip breakfast because honestly, emails are my brain food. After I’ve conquered the chaos of unread messages, I actually start getting ready for the day. My calendar is my bible—if it’s not on there, it’s not happening.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve been a residential realtor in Atlanta since I was 19, so in a way, I grew up in real estate. I specialize in high-rise condos and intown properties, and over the years, I’ve helped everyone from first-time buyers to luxury second-home owners. I love my clients—the repeaters, the newbies, and everyone in between. The personalities, the stories, the deals—it’s all part of the thrill. My brand? Helping people find their place in the city they love while keeping the process as smooth (and fun) as possible.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Julian Rather, my mentor, is the person who shaped everything for me. When I started at 19, he saw my potential and took me under his wing. I literally grew my business with his, and eventually, I took over much of it. Julian taught me everything I know about this industry—from handling tough clients to closing deals with finesse. He’s retired now, but we’re still great friends. Honestly, if it weren’t for him, I’d probably still be trying to figure out how to answer the phone professionally.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
Surprisingly, I actually miss Covid. I know—it sounds weird. But that time gave me a chance to slow down, focus on family, and enjoy life without a calendar running my every move. I got some of my happiest memories during that period. No traffic, no stress, just meaningful time with people I love. If there’s a silver lining in a global pandemic, that was it for me.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie? That the more real estate you sell, the better you are at your job. Quantity doesn’t always equal quality. Sure, I’ve sold a lot over the years, but I’ve learned that it’s much more satisfying to work with clients I respect and enjoy, rather than chasing endless numbers. Life’s too short for miserable transactions, no matter the price point. I’d rather have a handful of amazing deals than a mountain of stressful ones.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Absolutely what I was born to do. I wanted to dive into real estate from day one. My family wanted the full college experience for me, but I had other plans—I was ready to jump straight in. I’ve never looked back. Every day feels like exactly what I was meant to be doing, and honestly, I can’t imagine doing anything else.
