Life & Work with Fnu Sumiya of Norcross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fnu Sumiya.

Hi Fnu, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey with henna started long before it became a business. I first began doing henna in 5th grade, practicing simple designs on myself just for fun. By 6th grade, it became a true hobby, and I spent hours improving my work. When my family first moved here, we didn’t know any henna artists, and getting professional henna was too expensive, so I had no choice but to teach myself. By 7th grade, that hobby turned into my first official business, Henna Moments LLC, where I started taking clients and building my portfolio one design at a time.
As I got older, my vision expanded. By 11th grade, I grew beyond just henna and started offering jewelry, accessories, makeup, hairstyling, and clothing for brides and bridesmaids. That’s when I transformed everything into One Stop for Bride, a brand designed to bring multiple bridal services together under one name. What started as a little girl practicing henna at home has now turned into a full bridal business built with passion, hard work, and consistency.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I was the first person in my family ever to start a henna business or even know how to do henna, so I had no mentor or guidance. I learned everything through trial and error, practicing on my own hands and improving over time. Balancing school and business at a young age was challenging. I took online dual enrollment classes during high school, which gave me flexibility, but it was still difficult managing clients, homework, and responsibilities all at once.
Starting my senior year of high school, I was running my business while working as a medical interpreter and attending pop-up shops on weekends to showcase my services and products. When I began college, I also started working at a compounding pharmacy during my first semester, and I still work both jobs today while continuing to grow One Stop for Bride. Managing college, two jobs, and a full bridal business at the same time has pushed me to stay disciplined, organized, and fully committed to my goals.
Through all of this, my parents played a huge role. My dad helped buy my supplies when I couldn’t afford them, and my parents drove me to client appointments before I could travel alone. They stayed with me during sessions until I turned 18 to make sure I was safe and supported. As I expanded from a small henna startup into a full bridal brand, the challenges grew, finding suppliers, managing inventory, and building a professional brand while being a full-time student. But every challenge taught me something and shaped me into the entrepreneur I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a henna artist and the founder of One Stop for Bride, where I offer bridal henna, makeup, hairstyling, jewelry, accessories, and clothing for brides and bridesmaids. My clients know me for clean, detailed designs and for creating a comfortable, welcoming experience. What I’m most proud of is that I’m completely self-taught and the first in my family to ever do henna or start a business like this. What sets me apart is that I don’t just offer one service; I’ve built a brand that brings multiple bridal needs together so brides can get everything they need in one trusted place.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the bridal industry will continue to grow in the next 5–10 years, and that growth gives me a lot of room to expand One Stop for Bride even more. Right now, I offer henna, makeup, hair, jewelry, accessories, and clothing for brides and bridesmaids, and I plan to keep building. I want to bring in full spa services, including nails, manicures, and pedicures, and expand my South Asian halal catering for Bengali, Indian, Pakistani, and similar cultural events. My long-term goal is to hire skilled professionals for each service and open a physical store where brides can shop, book services, and enjoy a complete bridal experience from start to finish, all under one trusted brand.
