Conversations with Allen B.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allen B..

Hi Allen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Native to South Carolina, Allen B. is a singer-songwriter whose music resonates with soulfulness, honesty, and heartfelt transparency. Every note he delivers carries intention, creating an intimate bond between his art and his audience. With lyrics that feel like conversations with a close friend and a natural gift for crafting memorable hooks, Allen blends industry savvy with genuine relatability.

Drawing inspiration from modern R&B, pop, Afro influences, and contemporary Christian music, he is devoted to uniting these sounds—bridging the gap between Christian and R&B in a way that feels fresh, authentic, and true to his calling.

Allen began simply as a lover of music. Growing up, you could always find him singing along to Chris Brown, Mario, or Kirk Franklin—artists who shaped both his sound and his passion. From an early age, he knew music was part of his identity.

Raised in the church, Allen always sensed his purpose extended beyond its four walls. His mission is to connect with listeners who may never step into a sanctuary, yet still feel seen, understood, and uplifted through his music.

Over the years, he has had the privilege of singing background for numerous national artists and working alongside multiple Grammy-nominated and award-winning writers—experiences that continue to refine his artistry and broaden his creative vision.

Today, Allen is not only an artist but a devoted husband and father, with a beautiful wife and daughter who are his world. In just this year alone, he has surpassed 200,000 streams, a milestone he credits entirely to God. Without Him, nothing is possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth. Being both an artist and a writer comes with challenges—never knowing when a placement will land, or when a song you poured your heart into will finally get the attention it deserves. A few years ago, I auditioned for American Idol and made it all the way to the executive producers. They told me I had a beautiful voice, but that I wasn’t what they were looking for. It crushed me. But it also humbled me and motivated me in ways I didn’t expect.

One of my biggest struggles has been becoming my own worst enemy. Doubt has always been a battle for me. But I’ve learned that if you don’t believe in yourself and trust the gift God placed inside you, no one else will.

I haven’t spoken publicly about this yet, but recently I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my lung—and I lost my voice for almost a month. That season changed me. It reminded me of how many times I’ve taken my own gift for granted. In that moment, I told God that going forward, I won’t allow anything to stop me from doing what He created me to do.

God gets all the glory.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer-songwriter specializing in Christian/R&B music, with a strong focus on vocal production and vocal mixing. I’m known for crafting memorable hooks, rich harmonies, and delivering music that people can consistently rely on for quality and emotion.

What sets me apart is that I fully embrace being myself. I carry a unique sound—one that naturally draws listeners in the moment my music starts. I truly believe Christian R&B is finally receiving the appreciation it deserves, and I’m grateful to be a part of that movement.

Most importantly, God is at the center of everything I do. My purpose is for people to discover a genuine relationship with Him through the music I create.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising that most people don’t know is that last year Chris Brown actually cut a song I wrote. It didn’t end up making the album, but knowing that one of my favorite artists believed in and loved my work was an incredible moment for me.

Another random fun fact: I’m a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan. Yes, I know—we struggle. I’m loyal, not delusional. 😄
