Conversations with Cheflo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheflo.

Hi Cheflo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! My name is Kendra Mckever aka Chef Lo. I’m the owner of Chef Lo’s Private Dining and Catering Services. I grew up in South Ga but Blew Up in Atlanta, Ga. I’ve been living here for 26 years and I’m 43 years young. I’m a single mother of 2 Amazing children whom I love and work so hard for.

Cooking has always been a part of my family’s tradition. While growing up, Food was always cooking and plentiful at our houses every day, so I was always eating and trying to cook. When I moved to Marietta, Ga I was 17 years old and soon as I started college I started cooking everything I saw my family cook and started selling plates. Took off!! I made soooo much money with my plates but in the meantime I also started dating and got pregnant with my son 3 years into college and dropped out. Worst decision ever.

After giving birth to my son, I went through a lot. I had new friends, started being in the streets and hustling. Eventually, that landed me in prison for 3 years on trafficking charges. While in prison, me and my friends made food concoctions that was so good and made from the simplest ingredients, lol. But while I was inside I made up my mind to get out, get my life together and start my own business. I grew as a person and built a relationship with God before I left prison. I came home, got into a relationship… got pregnant with my daughter, and moved into a very nice home. I stopped cooking. I wasn’t motivated anymore. As the years passed and the more I cooked for my family, I motivated myself to start school and finish out my goals.

In 2022.. I put the work into building my business and brand. I did mixers and started back selling plates to rebuild my clientele. I researched and found someone to help me with my branding suite and hasn’t looked back!!! Chef Lo’s Private Dining and Catering Services was born and I’ve been very successful so far. Thankful.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting my business had its ups and downs because when I started, I was on my own. I used my own funds to build my business. I made sure I got certified in everything that I could think of, so it was a lot of long days and nights being away from my kids. I was getting booked back to back but didn’t have dependable staff, which sometimes put me in really tough spots. No matter what, I pushed through each and every time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a chef, I am a Caterer! I also vend at events all over Atlanta when I’m not catering. I really COOK! I would like to say I specialize in Everything because I do but I absolutely love making pasta and my deliciously famous Mac n Cheese is always a Show Stopper!! We work very hard. What sets my business apart from others that I know is that my food set ups are Top Tier, the food is always Very Fresh and Delicious & I run a very Professional Business.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I would suggest contacting Chef Lo’s thru email and a follow up text.
