Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Young.
Hi Summer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I wouldn’t be the photographer I am today without the support of my husband, my incredible children, and one of my closest friends, Kelly Norton who is also a wonderful talented photographer.
When I was first starting out, Kelly invited me to second shoot a wedding with her. I was so nervous, but if anyone believed in me as much as my husband did, it was Kelly. She pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible and taught me so much. She is who made me fall in love with weddings and pushed me to start my own business.
My children have always been my purpose. Building a business that allows me to work around their lives has truly been a dream come true. The ability to show up for their sports events, milestones, and everyday moments is something I’ll never take for granted.
My sweet husband has never doubted me once and is always my biggest hype man!
Photography has become such a passion for me, and I’ve grown so much over these last few years. I certainly haven’t done it alone! I’m deeply grateful for the support of my friends and family. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say learning how to edit in my own way and knowing I can’t control the weather is definitely the biggest struggle. Also, always wanting more gear!!! There has always been and will forever be bumps in the road. Learning how to laugh through the struggles has gotten me far!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in families, couples, and weddings. But always love to try new things.
I absolutely love working with kids! Out of everything I photograph, I’m especially proud of how far I’ve come with weddings. They’re not for the faint of heart: long hours, fast-paced moments, and a whole lot of responsibility. But every bit of it is worth it.
What truly sets me apart is how deeply I care. I will never do anything I wouldn’t appreciate as a client myself. Your images aren’t just something you’ve invested in. They’re memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime. I take that to heart every single time I pick up my camera.
I genuinely love every person who steps in front of my lens, and I always will. My goal is simple: to create images that make you feel seen, valued, and beautifully remembered.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m really looking forward to shooting more weddings this upcoming year. Getting to meet new people, exploring new locations, and seeing where this journey keeps taking me. I truly believe the Lord always puts me exactly where I’m meant to be.
Nothing I’ve accomplished would’ve been possible without Him. I know He has big plans for me… I’m just excited to see what they are.
