Rising Stars: Meet Asia Shamir Ferguson of Grant Park, Atlanta, Georgia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Shamir Ferguson.

Hi Asia Shamir, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a kid, I was always immersed in music, film, television, and dance. I greatly desired to be an actress and the center of attention. From drama club, dance teams, choir, and YouTube, I bounced around to a lot of creative mediums. One day, in an acting and modeling school I attended while in high school, we had to learn how to walk a runway, and it opened up a new light inside of me. When I got home that day, I immersed myself in Victoria’s Secret and high fashion shows and discovered I might love modeling. I started collecting Vogue magazines and learning about luxury fashion. Fast forward to 2021, and I moved to Atlanta with the intention of launching my acting, modeling, and dance career. I wound up styling, creative directing, writing, and creating YouTube videos instead. In the five years I’ve lived in Atlanta, I’ve worked on five internships in marketing, production, communications, social media, and fashion. Today, I truly owe where I am to many unpaid volunteer roles that have given me beautiful industry relationships and invaluable experience running award shows, coordinating productions, styling fashion shows, and even creative directing campaigns. All of these opportunities helped me build a beautiful portfolio that has allowed me to continuously elevate in my career, opening doors I could’ve never imagined.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely delayed gratification. It’s two-fold; for the past 4 years, I’ve consistently had two jobs while trying to balance my own personal projects. I’ve attracted phenomenal opportunities so easily, it’s crazy. I’m at the point now where I have to turn down internships because I genuinely don’t have the time. But for years, I’ve battled burnout, mental health struggles, and even slipping up, sabotaging great opportunities from the overwhelm. I also really struggle to say “no”. I’m extremely ambitious, so I really hate passing up a chance to work and gain more experience, and that has definitely led to a dysregulated nervous system and tying too much of my value to my career accomplishments, so much so that I’m trying to figure out who I am outside of a role or title. It’s like if I take the mask off, I don’t even know what face is underneath. So, finding myself outside of work has been tough.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now, I like to call myself a Fashion Editor-in-training. I write stories about fashion, culture, and entertainment. But like a true Virgo sun and Capricorn rising, I have like 100 jobs. I’m also a Communications/Digital Strategy Consultant, which consumes the majority of my work hours a week. Essentially, I’m writing a-lot of social media captions and articles. I also dabble in social media content creation, from filming and editing. I’m most proud of my most recent articles: Atlanta Fashion Week 2025 for ENSPIRE Magazine, and a few culture/fashion pieces for ESSENCE Girls United. What sets me apart from others is my willingness to appear different to outsiders and my hyper-analytical eye. I see the technical things that the majority of people don’t, which really irks my nerves sometimes because I notice everything, literally every tiniest detail, I can catch it quickly, and I have to fix it. But it has made me a strong asset to every team. I think it’s my superpower. I’ve also never really followed a wave or blended in with the crowd. That confidence in my individuality, while also remaining to see the deeper side of life, definitely set me apart. I love talking about the deep, philosophical parts of life and applying them to my art.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
For runway, I’d love to creative direct shows in the future, assist in wardrobe for film and television productions, curate art exhibitions, and continue writing cultural stories. If people want me on their projects that meet those criteria, I’m open to a DM or email to discuss the vision.
