Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray (Xalent) Girtley.
Hi Ray (Xalent), thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Im born & raised in New Orleans. I started making music in 2002 as a rapper initially then after a meeting with producer Mannie Fresh in 2005 I decided to take music production more seriously creating a audio production company RTM Productionsins 2005. I Relocated to Atlanta after hurricane Katrina, and in 2008 I found mentorship by producer Riecco Delavega which got me into the audio engineering side of the business. I enrolled in Atlanta Metropolitan College in 2008 for Mass Communications then transferred to Omnitech Institute where i got an Audio Engineering Certification. By 2010 I moved to NYC, with the sole purpose of furthering my engineering career and by 2013 I landed the opportunity to work directly with producer Ty Fyffe which had me engineering many major artists from Cardi B, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, XXXTenracion, Young Thug, Westside Gunn & more along with working with different major recording studios around NYC. By 2021 at age 33 after living in NYC for a decade and gaing multiple RIAA certifications and Billboard top placements I moved back to Atlanta and opened a pre production studio helping independent artist achieve the industry sound.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
