Inspiring Conversations with Patrice Payment of Mom Life Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrice Payment.

Hi Patrice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always knew I wanted to help people. Originally, I worked with kids as a play therapist. But after having my own kids I became a stay-at-home mom. I started a blog about mom life and used my counseling background to give moms tips on managing the every day challenges of motherhood. Once my kids were both in school, I decided to go back to counseling but to help moms. I saw firsthand how hard motherhood was and wanted to create a special place for moms to feel supported and to know that they aren’t alone. In 2021, I started Mom Life Counseling and in 2023 I became certified in Perinatal Mental Health. Now I specialize in helping new moms with anxiety and I also help moms all across the lifespan.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never 100% smooth! I’ve tried all the different ways of working as a mom- part-time, full-time, stay-at-home mom. I’ve learned that none of them are easy and they all have their challenges. Going to work when you have a newborn and you’re barely getting any sleep is hard. Moms who don’t work outside of the home also face struggles. Stay-at-home moms often feel like they lose their sense of identity and struggle with a different type of burnout. Having my own business has provided me with the flexibility to work while my kids are in school and still be involved- which mostly consists of being their personal taxi. Owning a business also has its challenges. I’ve had to push through my insecurities and put myself out there so that people know what I’m doing. I’ve had to be my own marketing consultant, accountant, social media person, scheduler and motivator. I wouldn’t change it for the world though and I feel very blessed.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mom Life Counseling offers counseling in Roswell, Georgia to moms in all stage of life who are dealing with anxiety, postpartum depression, the baby blues, work life balance, and more. I offer in person and virtual sessions, because I know that flexibility is a must for busy moms. I accept Aetna and United Health and I’m also able to provide a superbill for clients to submit to their insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. As a mom of 11 and 13 year olds, I understand the challenges that being a mom brings and I’m passionate about helping moms see that they aren’t alone. My approach to counseling is using cognitive behavioral strategies to help moms challenge unhelpful thoughts and reframe them in ways that allow them to move forward when they’re feeling stuck in the negative thinking cycle.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with my family makes me happy. I love traveling with my husband and kids and doing things outdoors like hiking, swimming, and paddleboarding. I also love to get creative and paint with watercolors or doodle. While I love exploring new places, I’m also happy snuggling on the couch with my dog, binge-watching tv with my family.
