Today we’d like to introduce you to Oliver “IAMGODSSON – Bishop O” Edwards.
Hi Oliver “IAMGODSSON – Bishop O”, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music has been apart of my life since an infant. the love of music runs on both sides of my but mainly my father, Grandfather and my uncles is who trained me. They sang together in a gospel group which allowed me to train as a musician from the young age of 5. from there i was inspired by lots of genres of music, but i gravitated to RnB music. i started my career at 16 traveling back and forth to atlanta from durham NC with my rnb groups members. at 18 our career took off majorly. touring the world, songs on the radio and connecting with all the major figures in the music industry. after a really good 7 to 8 years run, our career as artists pretty much came to a close for various reasons. around this time i started writing and producing for mainstream and indie artists. it was also at this time my brother and business partner Jeremy Unique Davis started the family business which was UED studios and it was there where my career grew as a writer/producer and business manager.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
it’s this business it’s never a smooth road. from day 1. there was not 1 day in the past 20 years that was smooth sailing. in this industry, you give up a lot. on the chase to succeed i gave up lots of relationship opportunities with significant others, i gave up wants and desires for myself for the overall collective and still came up short sometimes. Eventually i came to a point where there is a lot of darkness in this industry and it began to affect me in a negative way. Growing up in the church, i knew it was time to get back to the foundation and rededicate my life to christ and his will for my life. so i did and now im on a greater purpose. But i can truly say it was God that kept me in those dark times. it was a lot going on in a span of 20 years some ups and downs. but it all was a lesson learned.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear many hats. Currently i’m a christian base artist. but i don’t think of myself as an artist. i think of myself more of a minister of music. i have a new song out called Most High by Bishop O. also i am serving at my local church Victory Atlanta as a worship leader across all of our campuses. and my brother and i have revamped our entertainment company specializing in rental space for recording artists, tour rehearsal rentals, film and production, digital marketing and distribution, and teaching classes for the younger generation to help them enhance their craft and meet good people to build and network with in the entertainment industry.
i am no longer writing or producing for other artists at this time as i am focusing on my own music career. but i am proud that i have been able to pour into other artist from giving them a platform to help them grow in their career. writing and producing songs for them and providing services to help push their career agendas.
i’m proud that i’ve been able to sustain a living through my career. some ups and downs here and there but i would consider myself a professional to earn a living doing what i love to do and using my gifts and talents. and i’ve been able to help people beyond music by just being a great person and a good example for others. and i believe that’s what sets me aside from lots of my peers. while everyone is out here trying to exploit and make money off of people, i actually care for them. i give great service because it’s about the work first and the profits after that.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
what makes me happy is knowing that every day I wake up, I am covered in God‘s good grace and walking in his will for my life. also, I love spending time with my family and my loved ones. and spending time with my church family and overall creating. these are all the things that bring peace to my life.
