Today we’d like to introduce you to Scottie Weatherford.
Hi Scottie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How I knew I was gonna be a stylist was I would braid my friend’s hair and eventually it got to the point where I had all of my friends asking me to do their hair for homecoming. The funny thing is I remember another stylist asking me at the salon I work at now asking me why I’m getting my hair done so early in the morning for somebody that’s in high school and I remember smiling to her and saying i’m about to do all of my friends hair for homecoming/prom and I know I’m gonna be the last person I think about when it comes to getting my hair done. knew at 16 that I wanted to be in the beauty industry. I toured Keune Academy by 124 while I was still in high school (Lambert High School) and instantly fell in love with it and knew this is where I belonged. where are my next puzzle piece in life fitted. My parents made me promise them to finish high school first when I knew I had all my credits to graduate from high school. I got a phone call from Keune Academy by 124. If I was still interested in being a part of the program, I immediately said yes applied, and after going through their interview process, I successfully got in. Not even a week after I walked across the stage. I walked into Keune Academy as a student. I learned from the best of the best and to this day they still help improve my craft. The best advice I received there was to try everything and never stop learning and five years later, that mindset is still exactly what drives me as a stylist today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road one of the hardest parts early on was navigating how to separate work from home. I’m passionate about what I do so it’s easy for my brain to stay in salon mode even when I’m off the clock. I’m still working on finding the balance being fully present at home while giving everything to my clients. It’s a process, but it made me a stronger stylist and a more grounded person.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
It’s hard for me to pick just one thing that is my favorite thing about my job, but I would say that I love doing curly haircuts, color services, and extensions. One of the things I am most proud of is becoming an educator with Simply Natural North America being able to teach the MAGO Method that is so versatile not only with the hair coming in all different types of hair textures but the application itself is gentle on the the hair. What sets me apart from the others is I take real behind the chair experiences and apply that to the next generation of hairdressers or anyone wanting to be in the beauty industry.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The best way to work or collaborate with me is to reach out through Instagram or Facebook. That’s where I spend most of my time and are most active on for anyone wanting to support me. Simply sharing my work means the world to me.
